i'm homeless and live in a van...was told to move off a public car park

they say i cant sleep in it overnight...why not i ask? what is the problem?

What do you call a public car park? They are owned by the council and apparently, believe it or not, that is not public.

Surely there are caravan sites that charge a reasonable rate for a parking spot? You earning a living, right?

Also, is your van well-equipped?

there are no signs on the car pack..just a flat piece of tarmac...cars just park there in this little village

Lock yourself inside the van block up the windows so they can't see in, go to sleep don't open it or talk to them.
If they break into it you will get a nice new motorhome from the law suit.

i cant afford £12 a night... i earn about £100-£150 a week clear but ive just spent £300 on my van to get it through MOT...My van is basic..bed,heater and stove for cooking and shit bucket and water sprayer for washing

thats not natural to work at night...i use my van for deliveries..i work for myself

Just ignore it they need a warrant or some emergency powers to break in.
Lock it up, block up the windows, put ear plugs in, have a nice sleep.
If you don't answer its just a parked van and if its rego is not stolen etc they have no business with it.

Do you have any stores in the UK that are open 24 hrs (like Walmart here in the US) if so, can you park there overnight?

Don't take it personally. Move to a different carpark for now. Save up every penny you can (if you can save any). You gotta do what you gotta do. Not everyone judges you... What you're doing is very difficult (working while homeless). i admire that. Not sure I could do it.

try sleeping in a van on an highway parking lot, for more than three nights in a row, and the cops will run a check on your license plate...

try sleeping in a remote parking lot of a natural reserve, at night; the forester will call the cops on you...

try parking in a remote forest trail, and set up camp further hidden in the forest: local police will organise a manhunt because they think you have hanged yourself somewhere in the woods...

try parking for the night in an industrial area, where plenty of truckers sleep over in their vehicules, and police will check you out because you're not "transport" and probably a thief wanting to break into some warehouse...

i could go on. had it all happen countless times...

i'd always thought british police got more used to people living on the road? belgian police are actually trained to keep an eye on people living on the road, since some years. governments really seem to hate it when they can't keep a tab on their sheep.

Get to know the local cops, tell them your story, and say it is only temporary etc- try that, it has worked for me, then reather than hassle you they will actually watch your back. No kidding.
