install a web browser or movie player, and install flash for web browser plugin or a flash reading codec for the movie player

What a stinking pile of dog shit this operating system is. The Metro interface is all cloud based which totally eliminates any sense of privacy and security for the end user. On top of that, the desktop is now cut down and has the start button castrated. Finding one's way around is now guesswork since the OS offers no visual clues as to what the fuck is going on. The file manager now incorporates that totally fucked up ribbon bar - the one that everyone hates. It's inclusion was made to piss everyone off no doubt.

This operating system was designed by fuckheads - for fuckheads.

MicroSHIT is well and truly finished now that this putrid garbage has appeared since no sane person would want to run such an obnoxious and intrusive pile of shit.

Google can just sit back and watch as the MictoTitanic sinks rapidly into the abyss.

Mint is built from Ubuntu. (or upon it as it were...)

I have always been a HUGE Suse fan, but have recently migrated to Mint after some testing and such on my Son's Laptop.

VERY stable. Highly supported. It's now my "go-to" Distro. JM2C

yeah you might want to back up a few versions, the latest ubuntu i just installed has no task bar or start button either.

it also does that dumbshit mac thing where it detaches the menu bar from applications and puts it at the top of the screen, rather than in the window it's actually for.

You can download the classic windows shell application and have everything back, including a start button!

The installer includes Classic StartMenu as well as the Classic Explorer and ClassicIE9 options - they can be installed together or individually.
Classic Shell supports Windows 8 and enables you to bring back a XP, Vista or Win7 style Start Menu and Start button. It also includes an option to automatically skip the Metro/Modern screen and go directly to your desktop when your computer starts.

I've got Windows 8 and Im luvvin it. Its so eazy ewveything is big and nice and just looks fab on my big screen- everything looks the same now on my pc and rt its great for music surfing and gaming It's FASTER! , and its got moer security what is wrong witv people? The only people who dont like it are people WHO DONT LIKE CHANGE they just nerds who do't know what is good for the people I for one am gald Windows 8 is has a new look. I have seen the future and the future is Windows 8 I see they kept the desktop as an app which i think is a mistake and hopefully will be gone in the next version

win 8 works fine for me...but I do have a triple digit IQ.
