The installer includes Classic StartMenu as well as the Classic Explorer and ClassicIE9 options - they can be installed together or individually.

Windows 8 is actually pretty good once you've downloaded and installed classicshell. Boots directly to the desktop, gives you a start button and enables classic toolbars in explorer so you can avoid that 'ribbon' shit.

It boots faster than Windows 7 and looks and acts the same as it with classicshell. Trust me, if you have to buy new hardware with Windows 8 on it, just get classicshell.

The awesome thing about the start button with classicshell in Windows 8 is that it has the traditional programs selection, plus another section for Metro apps. So you can still run these apps if you want without having to go through the retarded Start Screen.

Microsoft is famous for changing shit for the sake of changing shit. I'm an I.T. Field engineer and nothing Microsoft has done since XP is worth its weight in pigshit. In MOST devices we are deploying, Windows Xp is STILL the operating system being used, even though it's not supported by MS anymore. Digital Signage being the biggie. As of January 2012, we finally began seeing Win7 being deployed on new PCs in the business sector. Very few I.T directors ever even migrated from Xp to Win7 due to the nightmare that was Vista and how the whole interface on 7 was so radically different than Xp; again, change for the sake of change, not for the sake of improvement. So, that makes every fucking thing we do as I.T. people more time consuming because these fucktards moved everything around. I HOPE IT IS the deathnail to MS, enough of this shit already.

Linux is turning up all over the place commercially, especially in point of sale. OsX is far superior and taking over the home market and Windows is just hated, old, slow, stodgy, overbuilt, and sorely lacking good security. It'll one day become the seeker of the hind-tit.

What a stinking pile of dog shit this operating system is. The Metro interface is all cloud based which totally eliminates any sense of privacy and security for the end user. On top of that, the desktop is now cut down and has the start button castrated. Finding one's way around is now guesswork since the OS offers no visual clues as to what the fuck is going on. The file manager now incorporates that totally fucked up ribbon bar - the one that everyone hates. It's inclusion was made to piss everyone off no doubt.

This operating system was designed by fuckheads - for fuckheads.

MicroSHIT is well and truly finished now that this putrid garbage has appeared since no sane person would want to run such an obnoxious and intrusive pile of shit.

Google can just sit back and watch as the MictoTitanic sinks rapidly into the abyss.

I wouldn't even begin to bother explaining the extensive I have worked on every OS. Some thoughts good, some obvious rotten eggs.

But, Windows 8, haven't found an app or program that has yet failed to work. The speed is right there.

Other than not knowing keyboard command, it like removing the touch concept from it.

So, it's so simple. But, guess there is a break in for everyone.

I hated it at first, until I learned how to grap the top of the screen and drag it down and close it.

Btw, I predict the Microsoft Surface Pro tablet will be the end of reign for iPads.

Someone has probably pointed this out but anyway. I also hate the "Metro Sexual" interface and just googled how to remove it. I was left with a standard WIndows 7 style interface except with the Win 8 theme.

On my system it was faster and used less resources than Win 7. Others say it performs the same as 7 when configured this way

They do it to drive their BUSINESS MODEL.....which is to force everyone to buy new products to work with the new O/S's.
It's their version of engineered obsolescence, much like designing lightbulbs to burn out after so many hours so you must buy more.

They seem to miss the concept thought that corporations are not going to keep retooling and retraining their workforce just to keep Microsoft in business.

Most people don't like it and while I have actually spent time on it and used it since beta and now a have test machine running the final, I don't like it either.

They should have called it tiles 1 instead of windows 8.

Can you imagine putting that on all the machines in a corporate environment?!

I've downgraded 4 new laptops to 7 and havn't put 8 on anything except the test machine.

You can add in a start button using classic shell and that helps a bit and then make a shortcut to the desktop on the desktop lol and strangely it has the missing things in it WTF? But whats the point in making it more like 7 when you can just use 7?

Linux and Mac? Well lets just say I'm looking forward to Bioshock infinite on RAID-0 SATA6 SSD's.

How do you like this as compared to Unbuntu?

I have a laptop I plan on reformatting with Linux and have yet to decide which distro to use.
