Well Said! I fully agree with that! Too many Microsoft followers who need to cling to their software for security - afraid of trying anything new. Who is afraid of change, really?

Using it here and it's fine. Start button can be put back ok with thrid party addons. It's alot faster too.

It's marginally faster because (1) they've stripped out some bloatware from it too impress the easily impressed, and (2) You have a newly installed OS that is not filled with junk and autostart stuff yet.

When people say Windows 8 is faster, forgive me for saying so, but it demonstrates a certain degree of stupidity and ignorance.

I'll wait at least for SP1 before I install it on one of my boxes.
Security and hardware issues always surface after weeks or a couple of months. Let them fix that first. I'm no guinea pig.

Windows 8 is garbage. I use apple products for the most part, but recently purchased a laptop with basic Windows 8 on it. I went to the Office.com website and purchased the University 365 product. It would not download because the trial version already on the computer would not let it. It took techs over two weeks to figure out how to repair this problem.

My initial contacts were futile. The service desk techs were totally ignorant and hung the phone up because they had no idea how to fix the problem. Several times there were 20 plus minute waits just to be hung up on.

Unfortunately, the problem was not limited to downloading the Office Suite, but involved internet connectivity as well. It took a total of 5 hours on the phone, and higher level techs realizing (there really was a problem) for the laptop to become functional.

This launch is a complete disaster for Microsoft. The start screen looks like it was designed for a 12 year old girl. If the intent was to compete with Apple, then it is a dismal failure. Now instead of Apple using its foot to kick Microsoft's behind, Microsoft uses their own foot. If I am in the board room of Apple, then I am on the floor laughing so hard, I can't stop the tears. Maybe Microsoft can pair up with Lionel and design trainwrecks.

There are way too many problems with the Windows 8 platform for it to be launched on the public now. My assumption is they thought the problems would be overcome by the public doing the trial and errors work for them instead of refining the platform in a controlled test environment.

Vista in many respects had the same challenges. After enough bandaids were put on it, they decided to call it Windows 7. Windows 7 is nothing more than repaired Vista. Windows 8 will probably have the same fate. After a thousand or so updates, it will probably be called Windows Infinity or some other relaunch name that their marketing department comes up with.

also folks good luck trying to find office 2010 anywhere. I disagree with most of the commentary here about win 8, you just have to not spend all your time bitching about change lime a prepubescent girl and learn how to make it work. But office 2013 on the other hand...holy shit! That is as big a difference as switching from windows to Linux (and not in the good way)! And I hate how Microsoft just rips the old product off the shelf and forces you into the new untested bullshit. Big Brother...go fuck yourself!

Metro is the biggest pain in the ass ever, but...

They actually made a lot of improvements if you like to use the keyboard :)

Just hit the Windows key, and start typing part of the name of a program you want to run. Each file that is automatically set to open with a metro app, just change it to whatever old app you want and you can safely avoid metro.

When you double click on a jpg file to look at it, Windows 8 opens it up in a slow application. When you close the application, you get a glorified blue screen of death, and Windows 8 is then locked with that blue screen, until you press a secret combination of keys on the keyboard.
I will not tell you how to get back to the desktop.
Go try it and see for yourself if you have Windows 8.

Well I have to say that Win8 is the biggest shit I have ever saw in my life! If Micro$oft will continue like this I will have to change the OS to Mac.

No jocks guys, I really love my Win7 but I can not use it forever. There will be a new Windows 9 or something in the next 2-3 years.... but until that time I´ll have to by a new laptop.... so the I will have no other choice than buy a fucking mac one.
