What you fail to realize is....the ONLY reason the 111 voted no is that there already were the votes to pass it. If both houses were full of one or the other party, it would still pass. Government never gives up a power once it has it.....unless by force.

Good comment. That's right...it was gonna pass. It's an odd law in that it uses language like "reasonable belief that one party is overseas and tied to terrorism"?

The police state wanted a more explicit statement like, "Never ending surveillance is legal wo warrants, restraint, minimization, or judicial sanction".

So...my thoughts are..."all calls from US to another US citizen residing inside the US" are routed to an overseas server...and thus...it becomes an overseas call, and then no warrant is needed. To route all domestic calls overseas might be a burden, but...the proof could be manufactured easily enough...and, usually No Notice is given to the parties being wiretapped, so "what standing to sue or challenge" does a citizen have when the police state does not disclose methods or facts that would be valuable to the defendant or suspect?

The republicans have never seen a repressive law that they did not like....2012 amerika is 1929 Weimar...

Here's the Dems:

Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-California) countered during a more than hour debate on the floor, urging the House to defeat the measure. “I think the government needs to comply with the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution all the time,” she said. “We can be safe while still complying with the Constitution of the United States.”

And in the Senate:

Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Oregon) has put a hold on the matching bill in the Senate. Among other reasons, he said the government should disclose how many Americans’ communications have been intercepted under the law, which was adopted in 2008 as a way to legalize the Bush administration’s warrantless wiretapping program that was initiated in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks.

So a Dem has managed to temporarily at least stop it in the Senate, after the Republicans, who wrote it and passed it initially, passed the extension overwhelmingly in the House.

It's like a lot of you forget how bad Bush was...

Yep, Bush signed it into law, and the law that Obama MAY sign will be passed by the Republicans in the House, by a huge majority.

Because, you know, laws have to be passed by the Congress and Senate BEFORE a President can sign them.

None of this matters because its being done, with or without a "warrant"! All electronic communications are monitored using very high tech AI controlled "programs".
