Are you kidding? Silver will never make it to $4000 an ounce. Gold has a chance, but not silver. We'd have to have hyper inflation to get to that.

I'm still a bit confused though. The news says that they will buy mortgage bonds. But I though QE means buying government bonds i.e. treasuries. Isn't there a difference?

Also it's only 40 billion a month. If I remember right the last two were around 1 trillion a peice and given all at once. So is it possible that this isn't really what the markets were hoping for?

Since I am not market-savvy, I still need a clearer, laymans's picture of what will happen once the dollar crashes without benefit of veiled measures.

Last year, someone said it like this: Say you have $3000US in the bank. Immediately after devaluing, that amount multiplies by the new dollar value. Which means, your $1000 is now inflated to a higher amount...yet, your mortgage note remains at the same dollar amount, without adjusting, so you actually have more money to play with.

Does my paycheck then inflate to the greater amount, also?

Yes but it looks like there's still a hand holding it down.
It hasn't gotten out of the range it's been in for the last few days, but gold is way out of it's range.
I would imagine JP Morgan is pulling out all the stops to slow it's rise.
