WHO CAN I TRUST? First thing you do is write up the entire concept, include a drawing. Get it notarized and mail it to yourself. Put the unopened envelope in a safety deposit box. This is insurance, if someone steals your idea you have proof it was yours first. Now, research a Patent Firm in your area. Most of the time they'll do all the work for a % or buy the idea from you. Make it public domain. Don't associate yourself with it at all, but be prepared to enter the market after others start building and using it. The profits are less, but your health and longevity will be much greater. You can come out decades later after the disruptive influence has died down. Keep a certified letter to yourself as proof of original thought, or just keep the letter with your will. |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 22162470 09/14/2012 11:26 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | TTowngirl, First thing you do is a patent search to see if there is what is called "prior art" That can be done here very simply. Just put the main component of your invention into the search and then drill down to the specific item. [link to patft.uspto.gov] After that if you dont find a "prior art" reference you can file a provisional patent for $225 here $97 for the forms and $125 for the application fee [link to www.patentwizard.com] What a provisional patent does "if granted" is give you a few things. 1. The ability to market your invention to the corporate world (trying to get a licensing deal) using the "Patent Pending" clause 2. Protects your invention as you try and market it so that no one else can steal your invention. 3. The provisional patent gives you (1) one year to file a Non-provisional patent (which is a full blown patent) So to register for a patent pending it will cost you $222 Good luck ! |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 21920594 I am very creative, think outside the box, and my word is my bond... I will not share this with anyone. I produced an invention years ago, that is still used today, however I never produced it in massive quantities as the liability insurance would have been outragous. The patent process is timely, diffuclt, expensive, and you really need someone to "bounce" your idea off.. Also, I know a little about production, and what things cost ot produce or replicate. If you want me to do this... email me at lisa dot diane dot S at gmail dot com. Yeah, believe this random person on the internet. I'm sure that would work out fine. |
