Thats it. Thats all the proof I need to know that they are prepping for SHTF, lights out type scenario. Holy fajesus!

Really, thats all it takes? They buy some firewood and it must mean the grid is going to go bye bye.

I don't really think 20 million dollars worth is just "some" wood..

But yes, I have to admit that it is unnerving unless someone knows if this is out of the ordinary. Any other examples?

It's like then the gov. says they spent $300.00 for a hammer. The money is unaccountable but tagged as "firewood" because they have to say something..and they just hope congress won't question it.

They aren't rebuilding destroyed cites and our troops aren't building fires. Opsec. Fire is a helluva lot hotter than a 12v light. Why buy wood here and stir conspiracy theories? Buy wood there. Send it back cargo. It's just money we're out of. And why not spend like there's no tomorrow? Hm. No tomorrow. Yup. No tomorrow. I'd spend like that if shtf was in the future. Economically, politically. So let's buy some firewood.

And the best part is that if they are to account for the wood, they can just say we already burnt it.

Re: Goverment buys 20million dollars worth of firewood.
Couple thoughts from someone who burns a lot of firewood.

1) If they paid $100/face cord (2' x 4' x 8' row), that would still be 200,000 cords of wood. It takes about 15-20 cord per winter in the coldest climates to heat for a season. Keeping the math simple and saying 20 cord per winter, that is enough wood to heat 10,000 homes or small buildings (barracks?) for one season.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1382145

I really dont see them buying that kind of wood for 100 a cord maybe more like 50 or even 75 on the high end. I know people who only use wood to heat and most on the top side would say 3-4 cods per winter and that is in Ohio .. So I cannnot imagine needing 15-20 cords a winter.. Just saying.
 Quoting: Lyttlmiss

Last year I was paying $55.00 for a face cord, so $100.00 for a full cord is not a bad price, IMHO.

If I had to rely on my woodstove as my only heat source, I might get through 2-3 cords during a cold winter.

It didn't even get cold enough to light it last winter - just heat pumps and good insulation was enough. I only burned just over a cord the year before (same kind of temperatures, but that was before I insulated the basement).

He said AFGHAN FIREWOOD. For our troops over there, not here. Why the crap would we import firewood from Afghanistan?

No doom here, folks.
 Quoting: MudMan

Hello
There kids doom here. Do you believe that the and wood is staying there? That is a very big irrational buy. They couldn't justify that purchase here. So for years they've been stockpiling wood and bringing it back here somewhere.
They are the only agency that can do it, the govt.
I am getting at least a cord myself soon with other backups.

A Man Has Got to Know His Limitations

I am just a sinner trying to make it to heaven!

Romans 8:35-39
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

You're probably right. Prep for SHTF.

I had a thought that maybe they are doing it to increase scarcity of fire wood? Price goes up and people say "fuck it, i'll just pay for electric heat"

cuz i mean, at $50 a face-cord, that's like... 400k face-cords

or about 13,333.3 chords...

That's a lot...

Like, enough to last my family about 19,047 years...
 Quoting: Dark Stranger 3003754

The gubbermint aint gonna pay no $50 a cord, it would be more like $10,000 a cord, hell that would only be a couple truckloads.

That would make a hell of a bonfire...you could roast a marshmallow from 100 yards...or burn a lot of bodies...

But, you're right, we assume it's for lights out situation but that also make sense ... burning bodies...Hmmm, but would they burn bodies that have expired from disease and such?
