How can we know whether we truly believe in God and truly love him? The answer is simple: if we are grateful and remember to thank him
"How can we know whether we truly believe in God and truly love him? The answer is simple: if we are grateful and remember to thank him, which is precisely the opposite of what human beings generally do. They say they believe in God and imagine they love him, but most of the time they express their faith and love in demands: God must watch over them, protect them and grant them everything they want, and if he fails to do so he’ll be in trouble, because they will no longer believe in him or love him! Yes, the faith and love of many believers amounts to this: complaints and reproaches. This is why their faith is precarious and their love so inconstant. "

By their fruits is the only way, as it is written.

The works of the flesh are manifest, which are [these]; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

Jesus replied, "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. "

"This is love for God: to obey his commands"

... We know we love God's children if we love God and obey his commandments.

... When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love

Well, if you already have the answer, there's no point in posing the question.

Sounds like the self-righteous pharisee who passed by the Samritan, imo. You can't cloth and feed a man with prayers, I believe you best serve God in loving others as He loves US, not whispering thank you to some far and off idea of God on your hands and knees or in some building every Sunday. It's good to thank God but thank Him with your actions towards others.

Thank him?

No Bible.

Jesus said "if you love me keep my commandments."

If you obey God you are his people.
