I have $700 to spend on a gun for the end of the world .What should I get? | |

Pistols suck for killing in comparison. Mini 14 is ok I guess. They are reliable....just make sure you use the right ammo. Marines use the MK318 SOST....and you can buy it. |

| sunroomking User ID: 17519663 09/15/2012 10:25 AM ![]() Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm leaning towards a Ruger mini-14 tactical, or a 10/22 rifle and a .22 pistol. Not confident about the stopping power of the .22, but my accuracy is pinpoint. What do my fellow gun enthusiasts recommend? Quoting: ZeuZ Is it "pinpoint" from a bench rest at a shooting range or pinpoint after running a couple hundred yards at full speed (to simulate stress under fire)? I'd want something with more stopping power, does that $700 include ammo, or is that just for the weapon? There are quite a few handgun caliber carbines (kel tec sub 2000, hi point, Baretta,) with great stopping power, affordable ammo, and that substantially extend your range for under $400, then you can put a decent optic on it and have enough left over for a few hundred rounds of ammo. I have a kel tec sub in 40 cal S&w and it uses Glock magazines and is extremely accurate out to 100 yards with open sights. That's my 2 cents. Buy Gold Buy Silver Buy Ammo have Faith. I carry a gun because it is my 2nd ammendment right, and a cop is too heavy. No good deed goes unpunished |

Durable, accurate, .223 readily available and tons of add-on/upgrades as budget allows. Texas has yet to learn submission to any oppression, come from what source it may. Get the Mini-14 if that is what you want. Then save up for training, you do not know how to shoot if you are asking basic questions like "what gun to get". Guns are the tool, without training, you would be better off spending the money on food and medical supplies. What is coming is not going to be over any time soon, and getting into gun battles is not going to be a good survival plan. |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 22198582 09/15/2012 11:06 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Better decide fast and get the ammo first. Guns can be bought - no problem - but ammo shortgages have already occurred and the ammo will be gone after the upcoming big event. A Mini-14 would be my choice with at least 1K rounds. It is accurate to 100-200 yards depending on the model. But it is not a deer hunting rifle of course. You don't need to worry about zombies over 100 yards away. |

Bullets much Easier to run across in a shtf situation. .22s, 9mm, 12guage shotguns, etc. are much mote common than other calibers. personally I have 3 shotguns, a 12 guage auto, a 12 guage single shot for accuracy, and a short bolt action 16 guage for close range. I also have a 7.62x54 bolt action rifle for shots over 100 yards as well as two pistols, an 8 shot 22 revolver and a 380 auto that can fit in my pocket. I try to keep at least a hundred rounds for each gun in stock, and plan to increase that stockpile closer to the end of this year. Whatever gun you decide on, just coose something you are comfy with and can operate easily in a tight spot. |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 23011194 09/15/2012 11:26 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | sounds like your short on money for ammo. the bad guys will be using 223/556. so that may be the most readily available ammo. just a thought. As people age they need optics. Pretty hard to mount them on an AK without expensive modification. But if your young, an AK might be the way to go.. There's not one army out there who uses 22lr. Should tell you something. Bolt action is good for long range sniping but for close up your dead... Lots to consider..... |

You can get a side mount for like 50 bucks for any scope. You could probably carry thousands of .22 rounds if you have even a little muscle. .223 and 7.62 would be the most common riffle round most likely. Then maybe .308 all speculation. |
