Re: I have $700 to spend on a gun for the end of the world .What should I get?
After much research ,I have decided to get the H&k/Umarex MP5 A5.22lr. It's made by Walther and the quality is supposed to be excellent. I don't want to shoot anyone anymore than I would want to hurt a box full of kittens. But in a worse case scenario. I want something light, compact, quiet, with an aggressive look, reliable, and a shit ton of ammo. It should be a very fun gun to shoot with.

My dad hasn't shot a gun since I was in boy scouts over a decade ago, and I want to teach my g/f's daughter as well, after she shows proficient care of an identical airsoft gun. So it should be a good gun for the both of them to have fun with.

So for ~$460- I can get the 22 MP5 a5
~$60 -2 - 25 round magazines.
~$100- 1000 rounds of good ammo

Best deal I can think of for a first gun.

Buy a good ak variant. Norinco makes a really good gun. Receiver is built heavier, also has a heavier Crome lined barrel.

You are a fool, from a legal standpoint, to teach another mother and father's child to use a firearm.

You have no legal or biological relationship to this minor, which happens to be your "girlfriends' daughter".

If something were to happen, even well after the relationship is over, you could be liable.

Perhaps he should find a female that has not gotten pregnant and had a child with another man.

That would solve this dilemma rather quickly.

Re: I have $700 to spend on a gun for the end of the world .What should I get?
How is me teaching a child to shoot a .22lr any different from when other people's dads were teaching me to shoot them when I was in the Boy Scouts. "But those were bolt action..." Fuck that shit, it's wussies like you that make me want to punch my own dad. If you don't teach kids responsibility, they will fail to recognize it later in life. Make them responsible for their own lives early, and they will respect them much more.

The HK MP5 .22lr is reliable, simple to clean, easy to customize, accurate, and will hold it's resale value better than any Chevy. The gun is for plinking, raccoons, and possibly home defense with some CCI stingers.

I will probably still get a 10/22 in the future so I can mount it in a g36 chassis. I shot a Mosin Nagant once and I loved it. I hit a 6"x6" stone tile from 200 yards with the iron sights on the first shot. The price is right and the round is huge. I'll probably pick up one of those as well down the road for game hunting.

If SHTF and bullets are flying everywhere, at least I won't have to worry about running out of ammo, or going broke trying to not run out of ammo.

If you are looking for something for the end of the world or the fall of humanity I would recommend a Crossbow (Single String) or a Recurve Long bow with a nice supply of arrows and Bolts. Arrows can be made and replacement strings will be easy to create. As far as a gun is concerned, for personal protection I recommend a Walther P22Q for abt $385. It's compact and Ammo is cheap and plentiful. As for a long gun I would suggest a ammo size of .223/5.56x45 NATO. This round is commonly available in civilian and military grade. What I have for this upcoming day is a DPMS A3 Sport Lite .223/5.56x45

sounds like your short on money for ammo. the bad guys will be using 223/556. so that may be the most readily available ammo. just a thought.

As people age they need optics. Pretty hard to mount them on an AK without expensive modification. But if your young, an AK might be the way to go..

There's not one army out there who uses 22lr. Should tell you something.

Bolt action is good for long range sniping but for close up your dead...

Lots to consider.....
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23011194

You can get a side mount for like 50 bucks for any scope.

You could probably carry thousands of .22 rounds if you have even a little muscle.

.223 and 7.62 would be the most common riffle round most likely. Then maybe .308 all speculation.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 18012943

Head to the USED section,,

SKS,,,lots of goodies available to modernize them and ammo is VERY plentiful

12 gauge shotty,,,there are quite a few real good ones Remington 870 for one. LOTS of mods available th improve the handling of this great piece of iron.

And a handgun for sure,,,,,,I would go with either a full size 1911 in a 45 caliber. Or the same caliber in a smaller framed handgun. TONS of stopping power.

And let us NOT FORGET the lowly 22. You will need something to procure your dinner with ,,without drawing attention to yourself. The Ruger 10/22 is very nice but there a number of others that are good too. Even one of those "survival"22s that come apart and have a hollow stock where the barrel goes. And they also FLOAT,,, which is another attractive feature

ALL this is subject to personal preferences,, but this would be MY choices for the title of this thread.

Few are willing to embrace the disapproval of their fellows, the censure of their colleagues, the wrath of their society. if it was my first rifle/pistol i would for sure go
with the 22lr you are going to need practice and when you
are through practicing you will find that 999 times out of
1000 a .22lr will do the job well.

A lot of zombie horde wankers here giving advice they fantasize they will be holed up in there suburban lot
fighting of hordes of brainless zombies.

the fact of the matter is if you allow yourself to get into a situation where a ak,ar or sks is needed then you have already fuked up big time.

if it were me id get a combo gun single shot .22lr over
12 or 20 gauge buy a few inserts for the shotgun barrel
to allow many common calibers and you are good to go.

Buy ammo.

When TSHTF, people will be running out of ammo and will give you gold and food for more. When the ammo runs out, you'll have lots of gold to get supplies from others.

if you want an apocalypse gun i'd recommend a .40S&W carbine. there are a couple billion .40S&W bullets out there, and carbines are more accurate than a pistol.

.223 / nato 5.56 isn't a bad idea either, though much more expensive to stock up before the blue heads invade.

You can build a serviceable AR for that. Then you'll understand how it works and how to fix it if something went wrong. Military still mostly uses M4s so most of the parts would be interchangeable along with the ammo. Make sure it's chambered in either 5.56 or .223 wylde so you can shoot 5.56 or .223 rounds. A .223 chamber can't handle the extra pressure of a mil spec 5.56 load. Get a cheapo red dot until you can afford decent optics. I have a Leupold one mine, it will shoot one hole groups at 300 yards with Black Hills 77gr or hand loads.

Buy used, private seller, you will be able to get more gun for less money if you shop around.

Get the Mini-14 if that is what you want. Then save up for training, you do not know how to shoot if you are asking basic questions like "what gun to get".

Guns are the tool, without training, you would be better off spending the money on food and medical supplies. What is coming is not going to be over any time soon, and getting into gun battles is not going to be a good survival plan.
