Powerful new superbug kills 7th person at NIH hospital in Maryland
He was the 19th patient at the hospital to contract an antibiotic-resistant strain of KPC, or Klebsiella pneumoniae. The outbreak stemmed from a single patient carrying the superbug who arrived at the hospital last summer.

this is the first I have heard of Klebsiella

being out of control. MRSA, C-diff, they are the

usual offenders. Glad to see this pinned.

Hmmm...I'm very sick for awhile and got my zpack from hospital yesterday. I'm on the third pill dose and still feeling lousy.

Considering there's only 5 pills in the dose and its always worked well before, i guess i can only be miserable and wait.

They were very specific in asking me if this all seem to start with a strong sinus headache. It did.
SPEAK UP. SILENCE IS DEADLY!

Antibiotics are not effective against most viruses, but some are, but only some viruses.

Best antibiotic is Grapefruit Seed Extract in liquid form. It will kill some flu viruses, but the main thing that happens with a very bad flu, many will contract a bacterial pneumonia which can be 100% cured with Grapefruit Seed Extract.

The detailed story that was written before patient #7 died:

WASHINGTON —Over six frightening months, a deadly germ untreatable by most antibiotics spread in the nation's leading research hospital. Pretty soon, a patient a week was catching the bug. Scientists at the National Institutes of Health locked down patients, cleaned with bleach, even ripped out plumbing –and still the germ persisted.

By the end, 18 people harbored the dangerous germ, and six died of bloodstream infections from it. Another five made it through the outbreak only to die from the diseases that brought them to NIH's world-famous campus in the first place.

It's a bad bug that usually only caused infection in people with certain chronic health conditions--COPD, alcoholism, diabetes, poor immune response. Now it's getting resistance to the few antibiotics that previously worked somewhat on them.
In his book, "Between Two Ages," Brzezinski wrote: "The technetronic era involves the gradual appearance of a more controlled society. Such a society would be dominated by an elite, unrestrained by traditional values."

Hope you feel better babe.

Funny story...A couple years ago i had to take the same thing. My ins. would only pay for three of them at a time so I had to go back on day four to get the other two. I was pretty sick and had to drive 35 miles round trip to get to town to buy 2 freakin pills. health insurance is a blessing and a joke

Lol.

However, with this extract as well as with several self-made extracts from seed and juiceless pulp of grapefruits (Citrus paradisi) no antimicrobial activity could be detected (standard serial broth dilution assay, agar diffusion test). Thus, it is concluded that the potent as well as nearly universal antimicrobial activity being attributed to grapefruit seed extract is merely due to the synthetic preservative agents contained within. Natural products with antimicrobial activity do not appear to be present.

I think/wonder if these bugs came from the overuse of antibiotics in the past. They used to give them to anyone with the sniffles and now they don't work on some things at all.

Please don't wait!

the RIGHT anti-biotics start working within 24 hours...you should feel a release in pressure at least!

Did they take a smear?

If not, they could be medicating you for the wrong bug and while you are an obedient patient, trusting thier judgement, the real bug could be growing unchecked!

Do NOT let this happen!

It is within your control to make sure you are getting the right intervention!

Bacteria come in gram positive and gram negative...very few, if any, drugs address both...it is one or the other...then there is arobic and an-arobic....

It takes time for swabs to grow...if they didn't take any then you are WAY behind the curve!

INSIST on a culture! You have that right!

I almost lost my son to infection because they assumed it was MRSA when really it was enterobactor cloacea(sic).

I am as serious as a heart attack!

We ended up with the hospital atterny in his room, the patient advocate(who worked for the atterny! figure that one out), the director for the floor he was on, and the resignation of the 'infectious disease' doctor who had been perscibing and not monitoring the progress, or should i day, lack there of...

My son lost 40 lbs in 40 days....the atterny said he must have been fat and the 'good' hospital food put him on the right track....

wrong answer...my son had been working for home depot in the contractor department filling orders and coordinating deliveries...he was extremely fit at 6 foot and 200 pounds, and quite cute I might add....

He lay there waisting away as the bacteria grew unchecked...when your body is fighting an infection by it's self it consumes a huge amount of protien!

His bodywas eating away at itself....we almost lost him but they gave us a new doctor...the director of the infectous disease department for the teaching hospital...only with his help did things come back under control.(eventually he was released but had to come in everyday for i.v. antibiotics at a clinic on the bottom floor of the hospital)

FIGHT FOR YOUR HEALTH! you must or you will loose it.

good luck.

Re: Powerful new superbug kills 7th person at NIH hospital in Maryland
A "z-pack" is Azrithromycin dosed for a theoretical 150lb man. If you weigh 210 or more, you need to use TWO Z Pacs concurrently. You may also need to continue the zpac for a 2nd round (total of ten days). This was a "wonder" drug when first introduced. But if you've ever had it previously prescribed it will loose much of it's initial efficacy. Rule of thumb is NEVER use a 2nd or third round of an antibiotic you've take within the past two years. Obviously, the doc extending your time on the drug because it is working but has not completely knocked out the infection is NOT what I'm talking about here. That's perfectly appropriate.

What I am talking about is taking "Cipro" for an infection in February and then the following December having a separate and non-related problem that requires powerful antibiotic therapy. At that 2nd juncture, CIPRO SHOULD NOT BE prescribed agin. It probably just won't work because your body has already become somewhat "immune" to it and will remain so for about 24 months. The good news is that most of the other things in the same antibiotic family will work. When in doubt, there's always Bactrim. (Combo of Penicillin and a sulfa drug.) Works well for anything from chest, to head wounds and infections to pneumonias. And it's not patented and so it's dirt cheap today, too!
