Lots of local afhgans on that base, both military and civilian employees. It's not surprising that they knew the weakest part of the entire 28-mile perimeter, which was the side the aircraft hangars were on.

19 Taliban made it to the Marine Ramp after a suicide bomber (in a truck, per some reports) blew a 5ft. wide hole in the 30ft. high outer wall. 18 died there. They never got close to any of the housing areas, and were in fact a couple of MILES away.

Initial reports state that the Taliban had been monitoring the eastern side of Camp Bastion for at least two weeks and had been posing as farmers working in a nearby maize plantation.

The attack only ever had one aim. It was a suicide mission designed to demonstrate that the Taliban can attack any Nato installation, no matter how secure.

According to this account there were 15 Taliban in 3 teams who got inside following the suicide bomber. Then it says 18 Taliban were killed and a 19th was wounded and captured.

It's still fucking amazing to me they could destroy 6 fighter jets on that huge, heavily fortified installation. Gotta give credit to the Afghanis for such a bold and fierce suicide attack. Wow.
