The cult of atheist Zionism posing as Judaism

By Rich Siegel

This essay was first published in Beyond Tribal Loyalties: Personal Stories of Jewish Peace Activists. (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2012)

January 1, 2012

I consider myself a cult survivor. I was raised in the cult of Atheist-Zionism-Posing-as-Judaism. I stated this to a few select friends several years ago, and they thought it was funny. The statement brought with it a pregnant pause, as though a punch line was going to follow, as though I were telling a joke. No punch line. I'm serious. More recently, subsequent to Israel's 2006 Lebanon war and the massacre in Gaza of 2008-2009, I find that I can say this and it is taken seriously. People know that something is very seriously wrong with Israel, and with the culture that supports Israel. They may not understand it, but they're more open than they were.

My family's involvement with Zionism goes back to its beginnings. It includes a grandfather who fought with the Jewish Legion to "liberate" Palestine from the Turks in WWI, great-great-grandparents who went to Jerusalem for their retirement in the 1920's, the best buddy of an uncle who smuggled arms from Czechoslovakia to Jewish terrorist groups in Palestine in the lead-up to the 1948 war, grandparents who were officers in their local B'nai Brith1 chapter, and a cousin who was involved in "Operation Mural"2. He currently represents Jewish/Zionist NGOs at the United Nations office in Geneva. His wife writes Muslim-bashing books under a pseudonym.

During my childhood, Zionism and Israel were held up on a pedestal. They were central to our existence, our identity, our raison d'être. They were our sub-cultural equivalent of "Mom and apple pie". I grew up convinced that they were perfect and beyond reproach. There was simply nothing in my environment to indicate otherwise. Finding out that I had been lied to all my life, and that I had been supporting something that I would never have supported had I been told anything resembling the truth, has been absolutely shattering.

Re: Rosh HaShanah begins in about 1 hour. Many believe that IF there is a Rapture it will occur during this event.
The below explanation of this Holy Day is part of an article that I find fascinating. It can be viewed in it's entirety at:

[link to www.freerepublic.com]

THE RAPTURE ON ROSH HASHANA

There are important parallels between Jewish feasts and the fulfillment of Christ. For example the Passover is now celebrated as the Lord’s Supper. The Sabbath is now celebrated by the Resurrection.

Some other parallels are: Pesach / Passover Hag HaMatzah / Feast of Unleavened Bread Bikkurim / First Fruits Shavout / Feast of Weeks (Pentecost)

Jewish tradition holds that Rosh Hashanah celebrates the anniversary of the creation of the world, a day when “God takes stock of all of His Creation,” which of course includes all of humanity. Translated from the Hebrew, Rosh Hashanah means “head of the year” – rosh means head, while hashanah means year. jewish people believe that God’s judgment on this day determines the course of the coming year.

Rosh Hashanah is a Jewish festival in which most work ceases, just as on the weekly Sabbath. It’s celebrated both in joy and solemnity. During the daily prayer service a ram’s horn, or in the Hebrew, shofar, is sounded: “And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation. Ye shall do no servile work therein: but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD.” (Leviticus 23:23-25)

God does not do things in vain, or without purpose. The Old Testament Holy Days were not just some sort of Divine make-work project to keep the Israelites busy while they were out wandering in the desert. All of the Old Testament Holy Days (Passover, Days of Unleavened Bread, The Feast of Weeks, The Feast of Trumpets, The Day of Atonement, The Festival of Tabernacles and the Last Day) were, and continue to be, living symbols of the stages of God’s Plan of Salvation for all humanity. Those events are now in progress, and true Christians are the manifestation of it.

In the Christian world, Rosh Hashanah is known as The Feast of Trumpets. Many Christians observe this festival for its Christian prophetic application – the Rapture of the Church.

“Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.” (1 Corinthians 15:51-53)

“For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17)

All the Spring Feasts were fulfilled at Christ’s first coming. All the Fall Feasts picture the Second Advent, and the Feast of Trumpets is the first of the fall feasts, picturing the Rapture.

rumpet (shofar) or ram’s horn is blown to warn the people to repent and return to God.

Rosh HaShanah is also referred to as ‘Yom Teruah’, the Day of the Sounding of the Shofar, or the Day of the Awakening Blast. On Yom Teruah, the Day of the Sounding of the Shofar, it is imperative for every person to hear the shofar.

Yom Teruah is the only festival that no man knows when exactly it will occur. This is due to the fact that it begins on the new moon. The new moon was sanctified when two witnesses see the new moon and attest to it before the Sanhedrin in the Temple.

This sanctification could happen during either of two days, depending on when the witnesses come. Since no one knew when the witnesses would come, no one knew when the Feast Each morning during the 30 days of the month of Elul, the tof Trumpets would start.

On the 30th of each month, the members of the High Court assembled in a courtyard in Jerusalem, where they waited to receive the testimony of two reliable witnesses. They then sanctified the new moon. The new moon is very difficult to see on the first day because it can be seen only about sunset, close to the sun, when the sun is traveling north. So, looking for a very slim faint crescent moon, which is very close to the sun, is a very difficult thing to do. If the moon’s crescent was not seen on the 30th day, the new moon was automatically celebrated on the 31st day.

For this reason, Yom Teruah is always celebrated for two days. These two days are celebrated as though it is just one long day of forty-eight hours. The reason that it is celebrated for two days is because if they waited to start the celebration until after the new moon had been sanctified, they would have missed half the celebration because the new moon can only be sanctified during daylight hours. The command seems to be that we know the season, but not the day or the hour (Matthew 24:32-36).

Yom Teruah, or the Feast of Trumpets, is the only feast that we do not know the day in which to keep it. Therefore, we have to be on the alert and watch for it.

Teruah means “an awakening blast”. A theme associated with Rosh.

HaShanah is the theme “to awake”. Teruah is also translated as “shout”.

The book of Isaiah, chapter 12, puts the shouting in the context of the thousand-year reign of Jesus. The Messianic era and shout is mentioned in Isaiah 44:23 and Zephaniah 3:14. The first coming of Christ is associated with a shout in Zechariah 9:9. The ultimate shout is the Rapture in First Thessalonians 4:16-17.

Can someone clear this up for me?
It concerns when the Feast of Trumpets begins. The Bible says on the 1st day of the seventh month(Tishri) is when the Feast is. And since days begin in the evenings biblically, that would mean the Feast begun on Sunday evening and will finish Monday evening. Correct? I see some people saying it finishes on Tuesday. Please help because I am very confused. Thank you :)

Sunset of September 16 through nightfall of September 18

Rosh Hashanah 2012 Shana Tova Umetukah !

By Apollo:

Rosh Hashanah the Head of the Year is the Jewish New Year. It is the Zikhron Teruah, the Memorial of the blowing of Trumpets or Feast of Trumpets, Its been observed since BC times but the destruction of the Second Solomons temple in 70 Ad changed its practice to various synagogues and private observance.

It is also called Yom Ha Din or Judgement day. Its a time of Repentance and prayer. It starts with the sabbath beofre the new moon. The Shofar (rams horn for Orthodox or antelope for Yemenite ) is blown during the morning prayers.

There are different types of Shofar blasts..

Tekiah (a single long trump)
Shevarim (three trumps with gaps little in between)
Teruah (nine short blows)

Tekiah Gedolah (a very long trump played at end of the Ashkenazi prayers )
Shevarim Teruah (3 trumps followed by 9 short blows)

On the first night of Rosh Hashanah it is the Ashkenazi and Hasidic tradition to greet each other Leshana Tova Tikoseiv Vesichoseim (Le'Alter LeChaim Tovim U'Leshalom)

which means "May you right away be inscribed and sealed for a Good Year and for a superior and undisturbed Life

I hope you will enjoy looking into this Jewish Holiday which is also celebrated by dipping apples into Honey. This represents the wishes for a sweet new year and that G-ds wife the Shekinah will look upon us compassionately.

I wish you,a wonderful Jewish New Year.

Rosh Hashanah 2012

Shana Tova Umetukah !

-Apollo

"And the spirit of G-d hovered [above the waters]." Our Sages tell us that this is actually referring to the soul of Moshiach. The Hebrew words in the verse "v'ruach Elokim m'rachefet" have the same numerical value as the words "This is the spirit of Melech HaMoshiach" - zeh haya rucho shel Melech HaMashiach.

Re: Rosh HaShanah begins in about 1 hour. Many believe that IF there is a Rapture it will occur during this event.
I believe the rapture will come when no one is expecting it. Although we can know the season is near, it is a number specific event, not a date specific event.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 15676325

EXACTLY!!

Jesus said point blank, "The Son of Man will come at a time you do NOT expect him", and Paul said it would be when "the full NUMBER of the Gentiles has come in". It's like a ship not being able to depart until the full complement of sailors is on board.

All this correlation to the fall feasts certainly pertains to Israel and the prophecy of Daniel and the Revelation, but nothing is tied to the Rapture. We do see the general signs of the beginning of the Tribulation, but that only tells us that our Departure must precede the signing of the 7-year treaty. So all the numerology, the study of the feasts and moons, the symbolism... all points to the judgments and the Second Coming, not to the "catching up".

That said, a Bride who is truly in love will pace, look out the window, and repeat "Is He here yet?" so many times that those who aren't looking for him will say "Shut up already, he's never coming!" But as Peter said, one of the signs is this very denial, and this could also be what Jesus meant by a time he is not expected. After all the crying wolf on the part of the mathematicians and calendar watchers, who can blame them? And if we pass the next few days or weeks or months without the Rapture, who will still believe it?

Only the true Bride.
Have I now become your enemy by telling you the truth? (Gal. 4:16)

Thank you :)

it's a 2 day appointment depending on when the moon is seen.. as one long day.

otherwise known as the day no man knows.

Thank you but the Bible says it is only one day and we can predict when the new moon is.

Re: Rosh HaShanah begins in about 1 hour. Many believe that IF there is a Rapture it will occur during this event.
Actually ~ I am pretty excited about this evening. I was reading exodus tonight ~ simply to stumble upon reading about how Rosh Hashanah actually came to be, in exodus chapter 12. It was fantastic to learn what God actually has to say about the yearly event, rather than learn about it from anyone else. It appears that even the Jewish have it confused with something other than what it really is. It is also suiting that if there were a rapture, it would occur during Rosh Hashanah. As, the scripture that teaches about the new year occurwhen God is delivering Israel from its enemy ~ Egypt. It is a reminder that we are powerless to deliver ourselves ~ and solely God is capable of delivering us from anything. I'm so happy that this year I get to make unleavened bread in order to be a part of what God desires. It's fantastic! I also hope for the rapture, and hope I can be a part of it. I know that none know the day nor hour ~ but, this time of remembrance would seem very suiting. :)

Oh ~ and according to scripture and not some religion ~ Rosh Hashanah actually last 7 days. Not 2. Sounds like the Jewish have fallen away from the original format of their own tradition. Glad to know the bible and Gods word actually points the way ~ not any man. Surprising that this day of rememberance is all about that as well.

Read Exodus chapter 12 for clarification. It covers it ~ stating that what God is marking is the beginning of the new year ~ which is what Rosh Hashanah is.

The rapture is a mid-nineteenth century heresy and is not biblical. .

Obviously, it's all bullshit, but the rapture is a special case of stupid.
 Quoting: heretics 22893261

You're just repeating what you "heard". Do some research,
Ephraim the Syrian wrote about the rapture in 378 A.D.

Irenaeus, and Polycarp also (Polycarp was john's understudy)

But I'm sure you know more of the Lords plans than they Eh?
