U.S Defence Secretary Leon Panetta says China-Japan "heading towards war."

It doesn't seem as though the Western powers feel they have much control over this one. If anything, they're sitting back and watching out of morbid curiosity to see who will fire the first shot (rather than doing anything to prevent it).

We have to remain positive and optimistic that this will diffuse and calm down, but neither side is making any effort to back down, and no other countries of influence are doing anything of significance to prevent a war there.

Panetta is a pussy.

China vs Japan... two of the biggest trading powerhouses on earth.

Not even Ben Bernanke and JP Morgan Chase can save the global economy from this one!

Why is China so pissed off about these islands? I know they are near China ... but it seems like more than that ...

Usually in these situations a U.S Secretary of Defence says things like "I believe the two sides can work together through dialogue to resolve this dispute..blah blah.."

....which is why Panetta's statement in this particular scenario is interesting.

....He's virtually saying that neither side is anywhere close to resolving this, and is talking about a war happening.

It's called History

1. The islands possibly contain LOTS of oil reserves

2. China is flexing its muscle

3. National pride

Oh yes, and that.

Definitely a big score to settle.

the best copy cat nation is Japan, they are nearly producing authentic European products but its not the same quality as European products are authentic quality


now the Chinese, just copies what it wants, which is almost everything from the entire Western world. no shame like the Chinese.

Here in Australia, we depend very heavily on those two nations economically. Japan buys most of our coal and China buys most of our iron ore.

If those two nations go at each other's throats, we're put in a very difficult position (and not just economically).

As for the U.S, it faces the prospect of either having to abandon its defence/security pact with Japan or voluntarily start WW3 by default of joining Japan against China.

Interesting times huh?

Panetta himself is an interesting dude... not long ago he said that the US is an inch away from war on a daily basis... or something like that.

So it would not surprise me that he would be concerned about the Japs and China...

Makes me wonder if he is chewing up his tie collection and maybe we need a little more mental toughness than he can cough up.

Good question/food for thought..

If this is true...we are all stupid, or at least most of us. WHY does China out of nowhere want to destroy Japan? Japan has NO military to speak of and will get run over. Even if nothing else, none of the rest of the fires in the world amount to anything, THIS will be life changing.

Looking on the bright side - if war breaks out over there it likely would put a halt to the cheap junk imported here from China.

now that i have had an entire day to digest this news about China and Japan..

This really does seem to make PERFECT SENSE FROM OUR POINT OF VIEW. (before now, I couldn't understand how we could benefit from this conflict)

This propaganda is EXACTLY what we would need to justify allowing the only people in the region that is capable of raising a force to help us battle the new behemoth, China.

Fascinating actually. South Korea will have all of it's hands full not being driven off of the peninsula again.

China whips up this kind of madness in its people from time to time. It lets off steam. This is a big one but its not the first and it wont be the last. Not the first time there have been such kind of things on the topic of these islands.

This too will pass.
