Japanese Foreign Minister met with U.S. Defense Secretary Panetta in Tokyo Tokyo - In the conflict over the Senkaku Islands (Diaoyu) Japan finds itself protected by the U.S. against China. As Japan's Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba told on Monday, Washington and Tokyo agreed that the current bilateral security agreement also includes the disputed archipelago. "I have not broached the subject today, but there is a mutual agreement between Japan and the U.S., the islands are covered by the contract," Gemba said after a meeting with U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta in Tokyo. Thus, the U.S. needed a Chinese attack on the uninhabited archipelago intervene on the part of Japan. |

Why is everyone over reacting about the Chinese? I've traveled to China and witnessed many of their people and in short, the country is populated by imbeciles. You can teach them how to build a door but they can't figure out how to use it on their own. Really. unless you know the Chinese, most are just fear mongering of the unknown and the chinese are the biggest population retards. |

[link to en.wikipedia.org] Quoting: Anonymous Coward 19261563 Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security was signed in Washington on January 19, 1960. Under the treaty, both parties assumed an obligation to maintain and develop their capacities to resist armed attack in common and to assist each other in case of armed attack on territories under Japanese administration. It was understood, however, that Japan could not come to the defense of the United States because it was constitutionally forbidden to send armed forces overseas (Article 9). In particular, the constitution forbids the maintenance of "land, sea, and air forces." It also expresses the Japanese people's renunciation of "the threat or use of force as a means of settling international disputes". The scope of the new treaty did not extend to the Ryukyu Islands, but an appended minute made clear that in case of an armed attack on the islands, both governments would consult and take appropriate action. Unlike the 1951 security pact, the new treaty provided for a ten-year term, after which it could be revoked upon one year's notice by either party. Article 6 of the treaty contains a Status of Forces Agreement on the stationing of United States forces in Japan, with specifics on the provision of facilities and areas for their use and on the administration of Japanese citizens employed in the facilities. The Agreed Minutes to the treaty specified that the Japanese government must be consulted prior to major changes in United States force deployment in Japan or to the use of Japanese bases for combat operations other than in defense of Japan itself. Also covered are the limits of the two countries' jurisdictions over crimes committed in Japan by United States military personnel. |

I worry more about China and Japan than the middle east starting WW3. Japan and China both have very solid personalities. I don't see Japan stepping back down because they are assuming the USA has their backs, they have had so much stress over Fukushima and now the Volcano, even Tokyo is irradiated. Citizens are smiling through a slow death. People that are that stressed often feel like they have nothing left to loose and can make dangerous haphazard decisions. China's force is so huge, millions of military people. It's like a giant that at any time could squash Japan easily. Just their fire power and size alone makes me feel that they won't back down either. I am sad over this situation. I have always admired Japan and their culture. I often by wholesale direct to make money direct from China. I am not sure but I wish both countries would simply divide those islands up or just learn to share and live together. I don't need a WW3 in that side of the world, I still have stupid customers in the States { I'm in Tx by the way) that are more concerned about buying over priced junk jewelry than what is happening in the world. |

Up people have Always been touchy over flags Because China is growing fast and wants to expand its hegemony. Flags? Hegemony? China is the largest country on this planet. Why the hell do they need a couple of tiny damn islands that they haven't been on in damn nearly 70 damn years?? That doesn't make any sense. Flags?
