Several years ago after the melanine contaminated pet food came out- also attributed to china I think, I read an article.

I do not remember the name of it, but a significant veterinary oganization did some research. What they discovered was not that cinese manufacturers were stuffing the food with melanine to boost the protein content (?).

They concluded that the melanine came from rice/grains grown in asia. It seems that Asia uses a lot of GMO'd grains, at least rice, and in studying this, it was found that when herbicide was gmo'd into the seed, the seed or plant breaks it down at some point, and once of the components is melanine. It has been decided that there is an acceptable level of melanine for the seed or plant to generate. However, GMO companies have observed and recorded that not all seeds produce the levels that are acceptable. They label these as "renegade seeds".

The veterinary organization believed it was the accumulation of melanine from gmod grains that caused the problem. Apparently in the US that was also offered as an explanation but was quickly altered to the one most people heard.

I have also discovered in looking for foods for my pets, that probiotics which are usually found in dog food these days,are gmo'd and do not have to be labled as such in USA. Canada actually produces a list and may have some labeling requirements, which is how I even know about it since I found the list online by accident.

This is not to say that pet products produced in china are not filled with crap.

What I am saying is most products in pet food are questionable at best. Mainstream human products these days are dangerous enough.

regarding my previous long post- the vet organization was in great Britain- forgot to type that.

I'm a medic work atleast 6 days a week. I find the time to do those things. Sometimes cook a bunch, freeze it one day to eat the rest of the week. But understand where you come from.

Yet we take their cheap big screen tv's and cheap ass shit for our homes with a smile don't we. Take a look at Marshalls, Target, etc. EVERYTHING in those places is made in CHINA! From the faucets for the tub, to the bath mats, pillows, you name it. ALL!!!!!!

We've got to stop buying this shit. We really really do. We've got to start looking for stuff made in U.S. Start ONLY buying U.S.

And yes, I know! It means paying a little more. Hell, if you can even find the product manufactured in the U.S. at ALL.

A problem with the gmo'd substances is that they are not necessarily compatible with human digestive, assimilation, and consequently, metabolic processes. ( or for animals as well) Since the small intestine has much to do with immunity and nutrient absorption as well. introducing incompatibilities and unknowns is problematic. Also contributes to sensitivities, allergies, autoimmune disorders, endocrine disorders, failure to thrive scenarios. agreed and anything that says animal parts or whatever in the label is mystery food. You have no idea which animal it is. IN THIIS COUNTRY vets have been caught sending euthenized cats and dogs to renderiing plants which then make "food" and cannibalism is not good for your pets.

well, gosh.

they were for my power chewing puppy as there was a phase in her early puppyhood where we had to try practically everything chewable bc she could just chomp everything and break it up instead of chewing it.

but she has outgrown that somewhat now and the offending treats are actually leftovers, looks like only 1 was ever given out. if i recall, they were pretty nasty so that is probably why.

My dog is now 3 1/2. I've mostly only ever fed her Nutro and Eukanuba products and never had any problems and she's healthy as a horse. All the stuff you listed by Nestle is crap, junk. If people are buying that for their animals they'd might as well feed them McDonald's. Though I did try her on those sweet potato duck wrapped treats *once*. I've been broke before and the dog was happy to eat buttered rice, raw eggs, and Ramen without the MSG flavored powder that it comes with. Better to give that then any cheap crap dog food, made in China or otherwise.
