Iran to outline refusal to stop uranium enrichment at IAEA meet

Iran's nuclear chief, Fereydoun Abbasi, will address a meeting of the UN nuclear agency on Tehran's contentious atomic program.

Iran's nuclear chief is expected to outline Iran's refusal to give up uranium enrichment at a 155-nation meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency on Monday.

At the meeting, which will focus on Tehran's contentious atomic program, as well as Mideast tensions over Israel's alleged nuclear capabilities, Fereydoun Abbasi is expected to explain that Iran needs to enrich unranium to make reactor fuel. The UN Security Council has ordered Tehran to stop the activity, however, because of fears it might use it to produce nuclear warheads.

TEHRAN — The top commander in Iran's powerful Revolutionary Guard warned Sunday that his country's missiles will ensure "nothing will remain" of Israel if it takes military action against Tehran over its controversial nuclear program.

He said Iran's response to any attack will begin near the Israeli border. The Islamic Republic has close ties with militants in Gaza and Lebanon, both of whom have rocket arsenals that could be used for cross-border strikes.

He said he did not believe however that Israel would attack on its own. Should the U.S. launch a strike, Jafari suggested that Iran could respond with missile salvos at U.S. bases in the Gulf.

"The US military bases sprawled around Iran are considered a big vulnerability. Even the missile shields that they have set up, based on information we have, could only work for a few missiles but when exposed to a massive volume of missiles, the shields will lose their efficiency and will not work," he said.

He also said that Iran warned that oil shipments through the strategic Strait of Hormuz will be in jeopardy if a war breaks out between Iran and the United States.

I wouldn't stop if I was them... don't get me wrong I love america, but we have some real parasites in charge of our foreign policy, parasites that have basically caused two world wars and lots of death and misery over one thing, Israel and it's creation and existence. It's just true. The same parasites brainwash the population into thinking turning the middle east into glass is a good thing, when the vast majority of the population just want to live their lives, it's only 10 percent or so, and mostly males, that give the rest a bad name.

Iran plans military exercises in preparation for Israeli strike on nuclear facilities

Iran will stage massive manoeuvres next month in a muscle-flexing show of preparedness to combat a US or Israeli aerial bombardment on its nuclear installations.

The exercise is being showcased as the biggest air defence war game in the Islamic Republic's history and will be Iran's most visible response yet to mounting speculation that Israel's prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, may order a military strike this autumn.

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) plans to hold large-scale military and security exercises in the Iranian capital city of Tehran in October.

Commander of IRGC's Tehran Corps General Seyed Mohsen Kazzemeini told reporters in his press conference here in Tehran on Monday that the drills, codenamed Imam Jafar Sadeq (PBUH), include security, defensive, and rescue and relief exercises and will be held in the capital on October 11-12.

Explosive blasts destroyed power lines to Iran's underground nuclear facility at Fordo last month, the head of Iran's atomic agency said at a meeting of UN atomic agency member states Monday.

"On ... 17th August 2012, the electric power lines from the city of Qom to the Fordo complex ... were cut using explosives," Fereydoon Abbasi Davani told the 155-nation International Atomic Energy Agency gathering in a speech.

"Terrorists and saboteurs might have intruded the agency and might be making decisions covertly," Fereydoun Abbasi-Davani, chief of Iran atomic energy organization chief, tells the International Atomic Energy Agency at a meeting today in Vienna.

Abbasi-Davani says the incident occurred Aug. 17 and was similar to one at Iran's main enrichment plant near Natanz an an unspecified date, Reuters reports.

The official notes that IAEA inspectors arrived to inspect the underground enrichment plant at Fordo shortly after the power lines were blown up.

"Does this visit have any connection to that detonation?" he asked the delegates to the meeting.
