Anyone watching the premier of "Revolution" tonight?
After 15 years of darkness, an unlikely group sets out to save the world.

NBC has a much-needed hit their hands, and it’s not “Guys With Kids.” It’s “Revolution,” a riveting sci-fi drama from the mind of “Supernatural” creator Eric Kripke, produced by J.J. Abrams (“Lost,” “Fringe”) that could re-energize the institution of appointment television that’s withering, thanks to iTunes, Tivo and DVRs.

“Revolution” tells the story of life after a mysterious event that essentially kills electricity and all electronics, plunging the entire world into darkness. Fifteen years after the blackout governments have fallen. States devolved into isolated republics and the suburbs into armed villages. The show hones in on Ben Matheson (a wholesome Tim Guinee) and his endangered and, of course, ruggedly hot children: fierce Charlie (Tracy Spiridakos) and her little brother Danny, who is spirited and asthmatic. Of course, there is a bigger conspiracy that begins to reveal itself when Ben is cut down by a Milita unit led by “Breaking Bad’s” Giancarlo Esposito. His dying breaths are spent to tell his daughter to go find her uncle in Chicago, because he’s “good at killing,” and he’ll be able to help her save her kidnapped brother.

The pilot, directed by “Iron-Man’s” Jon Favreau, is a masterful, slick brace of television that manages to live up to NBC's intensive hype. “Revolution” is a contemporary “Swiss Family Robinson” crossed with “The Hunger Games” and maybe even “Lord Of The Rings.” Most of the characters remember what it was like before the darkness, and some of them are haunted by it. Money has no meaning. Healthcare is non-existent. Ice cream and iPods are just fading memories.

The plot looks somewhat to Jericho, which I loved. Plus JJ Abrams puts out great shows.

Already saw it on Hulu+ a week ago ... it was okay
Wizard's Rule #1: "People are stupid. Given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. People will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People’s heads are full of knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true. People can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool."
Primordial Rule: "The rule unwritten. It is the secret of all life. It is the essence of life itself. You are a creator and master of your own reality. You ultimately make your own rules."

Was planning on it until I saw the full commercial. I just hate that everyone is all clean cut and looks like they just stepped out of a beauty salon.

I am glad someone else is irritated that the characters have nice clothes, hair etc.... After 15 years of no electricity, I would still look like hell.

i agree, that would be great but the masses of sheeple don't get that kind of reality check. they would go catatonic and suicidal. can't have that.

as for the "clean" look.....again the average american doesn't tune into that aspect, i think. most have never been hunting or camping or been without running water for more than 12 hours. they have no concept.

Jericho was a classic example of that. way too clean for the given scenario but a good story line, at least for the first season. i can tune that part out if the story flies.

thanks for the reminder.

Hope it's not too "sterilized" or hollywood. Would like to see some "survivalists" struggling but truly enjoying life.

Would also like to see some city folk hunted by cougars/mountain lions.

Re: Anyone watching the premier of "Revolution" tonight?
It's bad. So weak, though it could have been something interesting. I blame it on the writing as one of the heavyweights from Breaking Bad is a villain, and he seemed to be embarrassed to be in the pilot.

Why must they insist on people wearing unrealistic clothing post-collapse. It's silly. There's no way they could fabricate them. Things would be made of flax and wool, things they could grow only without electricity.

From a prepper and pioneer skills point of view, the tech that they're using is absurd 15 years after a collapse. If they use swords and bows, well, show they being forged and steam treating the yews or osage orange wood, not something that looks to be made of high tech plastics. I mean, without electricity, something as simple as canning and preserving would be complicated since the lids would have to pressed and manufactured in very old tech ways.

Watch it if nothing else is on. There's no reason to make the character's seem superhumanly fast and as adroit as a Chinese kung fu flick. The samurai, the medieval swordsmen from through Western and Eastern Europe and the Middle East, all were quite amazing enough. It's a missed opportunity to see some historical fighting that we'd have to revert to, aspects like wearing armor would be important again

Hell, someone in 15 years would have created flintlocks, but we're fresh on the heels of The Hunger Games, so got to use only archery.

If you've got someone using dc power and batteries, well explain how you made the battery acid and lead cores, and make it plausible, not just make some Rube Goldberg computer transmitting data. I mean, it's possible, but explain it, since it's cool.

Think, 15 years after no manufacturing. LEDs are gone, components fried that we're not shielded. All interesting to postulate how to harvest stuff.

The idea of downloading a library...well there's lots of preppers who've done that in case of a collapse, so it's not as if it's something you ewww and ahhh over, unless the USB data is directly explaining the conspiracy.

You could have watched it early on hulu, last week.

Not good! Militias have been cast as the bad guys.

Don't ya know,,, they've got to demonize the militias now so the sheep in our future will not be supportive of them.

BTW, Jericho was excellent,,, and very believable in a general sense.

Not only was the premise better in Jericho, but the acting too. That show had some silly moments like the IRS agent trying to collect back taxes, what nonsense, but there were great episodes about dealing with tactics, energy production, slavery, etc. It never should been canceled the way it was.
