Atheism 101: what is the Book of Revelations
all of the visions that John of Patmos had
are common to every culture throughout human history.
the "apocalyptic vision" is nothing more than a peculiarity
of the human mind, that is common to all cultures through human history, and it is rooted in *Thanatos*, which Freud identified.

so, in a very real sense, it is Freud's Thanatos that has brought Humankind here, to 2012, today, here, where we're at.

Re: Atheism 101: what is the Book of Revelations
So let me get this straight... You're saying Sigmund Freud made-up an ancient deity which was venerated and known to exist thousands of years before he was born?

Wait a minute... I think I understand the problem here...

John, have you been renting out that blasted time machine again?!

Again, you find more veracity in the works of a deranged psycho-stimulant fiend than the ancient cultures which invalidated his entire profession with their innate understanding of the spirit...

But yes, I am clearly way out of my league here.

Re: Atheism 101: what is the Book of Revelations
I've given it some thought, OP, but more along the lines of John being Jewish trying to keep Daniel's visions applicable to the End Times with 'Israel' inheriting rulership of the World. The 12,000 redeemed from the 12 Tribes is quite a stretch these days, not to mention them being 'virgins' who had not 'defiled themselves' of having been with a woman. Reads a bit arrogant against the sanctity of marriage.

Foolish man, the atheist does not believe and does not waste time on such a marxist revolution against religions.

The book of Revelation from Jesus to John can seem difficult for the unlearned.

I've often wondered what happened to the word "Upharsin" as the work "Peres" is defined. Kinda reads like 'you sinned too far.."

Re: Atheism 101: what is the Book of Revelations
We're living in Babylon now. The Book of Revelation says she is going to be destroyed in one hour.

I think he's talking about a revolt.

Revelation 17:16 And the ten horns which you saw on the beast, these will hate the harlot, make her desolate and naked, eat her flesh and burn her with fire.

Revelation 18:8 For this reason her plagues will come in a single day, death and mourning and famine, and she will be burned up with fire; for mighty is the Lord God who has judged her."

[fire in Biblical terms sometimes means anger]

Revelation 18:9 And the kings of the earth, who committed sexual immorality and lived in luxury with her, will weep and wail over her when they see the smoke of her burning.

Revelation 18:10 They will stand far off, in fear of her torment, and say, "Alas! Alas! You great city, you mighty city, Babylon! For in a single hour your judgment has come."

If you could read and understand it would help.

You see Babylon is a CITY.
It's not a nation, not a collection of nations, just a CITY.

One thing I have never understood about atheist is why do they seem to be obsessed with something they claim to not believe in. I believe Buddhism and Hinduism are BS, but I do not constantly push my opinion of these religions on other people, and I would never be so rude as to call someone stupid or denigrate them for having these beliefs, there is a thing called manners. If asked, I will give my opinion, but I don't go around ranting and raving about it.
Atheist appear to me to be acting the same as spoiled, rebellious children that believe they are smarter than their parents and want to do anything they please, with no responsibility for their actions.

a religion, it's a point of view, a philosophy, so to speak.
and there certainly is no kind of God in Buddhism.

(note there are lot's "sects" in Buddhism that have made
Buddhism into a religion and they've created all sorts
of things sort of akin to "Gods"... but all of that
stuff has nothing to do with the teachings of Gotama the Buddha.
