This is for those who are confused on the subject. Some people believe that the Mayan long count has something to do with the precession of the equinoxes,and it doesn't. Just so happens there are two 26,000 year cycles that are converging at the same time frame.

The precession of the equinoxes is the cycle of the ages of the zodiac, and lasts 25,920 years. There are 12 ages in this cycle, of 2160 years each. This cycle begins with the beginning of the age of leo, and we are half way through, sometime at the end of the age of pisces and the beginning of aquarius.

The mayan calendar long count measures the up and down motion of solar system across the plane of the galaxy's ecliptic. According to the mayans, we are at the end of this cycle/beginning of the next, at the center of the plane of the milky way. This cycle lasts 25,625 years(one full up and down trip starting from the center.)

Thoughts?

I personally believe we are going to be entering the age of aquarius on december 21, 2012. This is just a feeling though, the real start of the age is disputed.

I also want to note something interesting.

On december 21, 2012, there will be a transit of venus as seen from saturn. this is fairly commom, but I thought the date was interesting, knowing that saturn co-rules aquarius.
