'Furious' Report Slams 'Disregard' for Public Safety as DOJ Officials Quit-Holder Innocent?
Inspector general releases report finding Eric Holder's Justice Department provided insufficient oversight on the botched 'Fast and Furious' gun-walking operation, as one top official quits and another retires.

A bombshell report released Wednesday on Operation Fast and Furious faulted a range of federal agencies for the failed anti-gunrunning program and accused officials in charge of a "disregard" for public safety. In the wake of the report, one Justice Department official resigned and another retired.
The sprawling report by the department's inspector general is the most comprehensive account yet on the deadly operation which allowed weapons to "walk" across the U.S.-Mexico border and resulted in hundreds of firearms turning up at crime scenes in both countries.

The report says Attorney General Eric Holder was not made aware of potential flaws in the program until February of last year. But the report cites 14 other department employees -- including Criminal Division head Lanny Breuer -- for potential wrongdoing, recommending the department consider disciplinary action against them.

One congressional source told Fox News the report was "more brutal than was expected."
The report also marked Jason Weinstein, the deputy assistant attorney general for the Criminal Division, as the highest-ranking DOJ employee in a position to stop the program. Weinstein, who disputes the findings, is nevertheless resigning in the wake of the report.

Another official criticized for not asking enough questions about the Furious operation, former ATF acting director Kenneth Melson, retired after the report came down.
The nearly 500-page report was completed after investigators reviewed 100,000 documents and interviewed 130 people.
The report slams both

Justice Dept Faulted in Gun-Trafficking Operation
September 19, 2012 (AP)

The Justice Department's internal watchdog on Wednesday faulted the agency for misguided strategies, errors in judgment and management failures during a bungled gun-trafficking probe in Arizona that disregarded public safety and resulted in hundreds of weapons turning up at crime scenes in the U.S. and Mexico.

Two senior officials left the department, one by resignation and one by retirement, upon the report's release.

In the 471-page report, Inspector General Michael Horowitz referred more than a dozen people for possible department disciplinary action for their roles in Operation Fast and Furious and a separate, earlier probe known as Wide Receiver, undertaken during the George W. Bush administration.

The report did not criticize Attorney General Eric Holder, but said lower-level officials should have briefed him about the investigation much earlier.

The report found no evidence that Holder was informed about the Fast and Furious operation before Jan. 31, 2011, or that the attorney general was told about the..

Thanks for the pin..yeah, funny how Holder just didn't know a thingyeahsure

WASHINGTON, Sept. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- B. Todd Jones, Acting Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), issued the following statement regarding the Department of Justice Office of Inspector General's report on the Fast and Furious investigation:
"ATF greatly appreciates the work done by the Department of Justice's Office of Inspector General (OIG) and believes that the OIG report is rightfully critical of ATF's handling of the Wide Receiver and Fast and Furious investigations.

ATF accepts full responsibility for its failure to exercise proper leadership and oversight of these investigations.
Combined with the lack of effective and accurate internal communication up and down the chain of command, our shortcomings led to a series of regrettable events. As such, I have referred the findings of the OIG report to our Office of Professional Responsibility and Security Operations to determine if any adverse actions are warranted. The Privacy Act prohibits us from discussing any personnel actions related to those named in the report."

Inspector General: DOJ misled Congress about Fast and Furious

September 19, 2012 | 3:25 pm

Department of Justice officials “knew or should have known” that they were providing Congress with false claims that Operation Fast and Furious was not allowing guns to be smuggled into Mexico, according to the inspector general.

The report faults DOJ for failing to take Grassley’s first question about Fast and Furious — especially as it implicitly pertained to the death of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry — seriously.

“We found that the statement in the May 2 letter – ‘It remains our understanding that ATF’s Operation Fast and Furious
did not knowingly permit straw buyers to take guns into Mexico’ – reasonably could have been under..

Re: 'Furious' Report Slams 'Disregard' for Public Safety as DOJ Officials Quit-Holder Innocent?
Believe me, if you think this is hard hitting it's not !!! It is 200 times worst than what they're reporting. IG is part of the USG. They're only going to give enough so that it will fade away. Those folks who are being pointed out should not be given their retirement pension, should be brought to an independent grand jury, and explain themselves for what they did. Working for the USG is a priveledge, not a right to chainsaw rules, regs, and laws and think they can hide behind the blanket of "mother" govt.

Holder knew !!! There had to be signed papers at the highest levels to proceed with a horrible ill conceived operation. These guys had no idea to the ramifications of a screw-up. An innocent life was paid for such an amateurist concept. What a bunch of clowns, and this report is nothing to the extent it really should be.

ah...Acknowledge the "fiasco" for what it isn't, and allow Holder to get off scott-free with a few token officials resigning to "put it all to rest."

classic bullshit.

Holder's still in contempt, and should be behind bars by now.
Within the surreal depths of "reality" lies the truth.

I honestly think, that as the rats jump ship, a lot of them are going to start SQUEALING, because the ones in the "know" will be whacked. The rest will start "squealing" and scrambling for protection.

Re: 'Furious' Report Slams 'Disregard' for Public Safety as DOJ Officials Quit-Holder Innocent?
I hope that Hell has a special place for the members of this justice department and this administration. For those of you that don't know anyone on the U.S. Border Patrol, Brian Terry's family notwithstanding, they are an EXTRAORDINARY group (by-and-large) of human beings who deal with an EXTRAORDINARY responsibility. They love this country for its own sake, and they want you to know that there is someone walking the line for you EVERY DAY so that you can enjoy liberty and security at their expense. Let me repeat myself...at THEIR expense. The repeat drug traffickers and border jumpers do not enjoy the success they do because it's been facilitated by our Border Patrol. Absolute fact.

My position on the nature of the subversive acts this government has perpetuated is no secret and well-told in 1 or more previous posts. The only thing I wish to add is that per my opening statement, if I were selected by Satan himself to execute punishment on the individuals responsible for the death of Brian Terry, I would make it by fire, I would make it unimaginably painful, and I would be unrelenting in my execution of it.
