Growth was always expected they just don't know by how much. As for the gas I think that was unexpected.

Re: ALERT! Sinkhole grows 400 feet, gas pressure too great for drillers
they are piercing through the salt dome tomorrow
really hoping stuff doesn't collapse/explode/erupt/whatever
no way could i live there especially with all the strange seismic activity the scientists are trying to understand
hell no
i'd be happy to evacuate and get a check
i just don't have a good feeling about louisiana
sorry folks
between bp, seafloor holes, methane gas, dry/salty mississippi, an unexplained expanding toxic sinkhole, bubbles/gas, etc.
i just couldn't do it

No idea, don't know which way the spread is or where the butain is, I'm more concerned about the high presure of the gas pockets myself, that just seems strange. I'm a bit scared about when the get into the texas brine cavern, no one knows what will be found.

I noticed another thread about the sinkhole that got pinned but that YouTube was pulled. If you read the writers report the YouTube link is in her article. She can't even embed the video.

Interesting...

“One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back.” – Carl Sagan

Back in 2008 I saw well heads in the Barnett Shale rated 20,000 psi and you can control high Pressure gas wells by using coiled tubing with crosslinked gel... So it would have to be over say 15,000 psi which would be highly unlikley in a salt dome storage without some external geophysical force cranking up the pressure.... If it is indeed to high to be controlled by modern drilling techniques, my advice is RUN! RUN VERY FAST!

seriously?
what do you make of this bit from the Assumption blog?
[link to assumptionla.wordpress.com]

Drilling of the sonic rig that encountered gas at 90’ on Friday was stopped and plugged with cement and grout as they were unable to put in the water well due to the inability to control the gas pushing mud and water to the surface. DNR hired The Shaw Group engineers to redesign a well that can be placed for venting operations. The geo-probe rigs for observation continue to be placed at lower depths to check for the presence of gas. They’re currently working on the Dugas & LeBlanc property, north of LA-70 and two geo-probe wells have been placed on Triche property. DNR is currently looking for locations as well as willing individual property owners to place additional geo-probe observation wells.

followed by this:

As stated on yesterday, DNR has ordered all companies with active industry on the salt dome (Texas Brine, Chevron, Cross Tex, Dow, Pro Mix, Acadian, and PB Energy) to investigate for the presence of natural gas and ordered to vent any gas found. Each company was required to submit their plans regarding this order to DNR. Parish officials and state agencies will review and discuss these plans this afternoon at the industry meeting. The parish should also be receiving engineered plans from DNR for the vent wells that will be placed within the community sometime this week.
