Re: Here is exactly how "Obamacare" will affect me and my family starting next year.....
I currently have health insurance with my company. It's a pretty good plan as health insurance plans go, I have heard of worse for sure.

My cost right now is $370 per month to cover myself and my entire family (split over two checks at $185 per check). The company-paid part of our insurance cost the company $15,500 per year, per employee (somewhat less for individuals only but not by much).

I am friends with the HR person as XYZ Corp (not the real name obviously) and this person told me that the company is seriously considering taking the $2000 per employee tax hit for not offering coverage, thereby forcing all of us into the government plan. In their words - "Yeah, this would suck and the coverage would not be nearly as good, but the company would save over $10,000 per employee."

My company has 86 employees. That's $860,000 per year the company would save by forcing us into Obamacare.

Many of us employees have talked about this and even considered walking off the job to at least demand most of the savings back in the form of an increase in pay (since it costs the company XX dollars to employ each of us already) but with the economy as bad as it is, it's risky. Mind you most of us are highly skilled and qualified and the company would take a huge productivity hit if we walked - but then again, saving $860,000 per year - maybe they could absorb it.

I firmly believe that Obamacare, and the current economic situation, are playing hand-in-hand intentionally.

Why did the Dems/Liberals pass Obamacare? To serve their constituents and give them freebies.

Why did the Reps/Conservatives pass Obamacare? To save their fat cat constituents money and pad their wallets.

We can't win with this shit.

Oh well, at least it'll be fun in the "end of days" when all these people are standing in judgement and have to justify themselves. That'll be fun.

Right now, if they yank that bennie out from under you, they are saving $15,500 year per employee. They are not currently under any obligation to provide you with any coverage except to keep you around.

If they were going to screw you, why would they wait until there is a $2,00 per employee penalty when they could have been doing it all along?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24085591

Not sure if serious.....

The penalty didn't even exist until Obamacare.

Surely you knew that......

Obamacare now says by law you don't have to insure people but pay a penalty instead.

Before, insurance was tax deductible, and employees got the benefit 100% tax free.

Now, it's a tax, and it's cheaper to pay the penalty.

Re: Here is exactly how "Obamacare" will affect me and my family starting next year.....
My employer used to take care of 100% but when ObamaCare took over the rates my company was paying went up dramatically. The company used to pay $12000/yr for my wife and me but under OBC the rates went to $18000/yr.

This rate increase was planned under OBC because it made allowance for insurance providers to raise the rates up to 40% until 2014 after which they would be forced to reduce the rates to an acceptable level.

The reasoning behind a 40% rate hike for 3 years is to force companies who provide a Platinum level of coverage for their employees to leverage them to reduce the level of coverage to a more modest amount. This fits in nicely with the premise of OBC; which is to provide mediocre coverage for all people and ensure that no one is getting elite level coverage without paying thru the nose for it.

Insurance is just another of the bankers scams. You pay in about $20k a year. Good luck getting a transplant or chemo-therapy if you need it.

And get real, your company isn't going to give you guys a higher salary when they ship your ass onto obamacare.

Funny how you threaten to walk off the job over this, but have been sitting idle for the past decade while the federal reserve prints monopoly money like there is no tomorrow, destroying the value of the dollars you earn.

Truth is, you don't have the balls to walk off the job. We got evil bankers rigging the markets and war criminals in political office and everyone just walks around like nothing is happening. You're just another bot, and most likely replaceable contrary to your beliefs.

Though I understand Americans hate change, here is what we have in New Zealand.

We are taxed to pay for the free hospitals and free doctors to under six year olds and subsidized doctors visits for the poor.

I am sure this is costing way less than you're currently paying at the moment.

We do not have anybody waiting in an ambulance for medical care while they sort out the insurance.

There is private insurance if you want it but the public system will get you most things.

I find it a comfort that if I get sick all I have to do is get to the hospital, of course they will come and pick me up if I ring for an ambulance.

I think your current system stinks, lots of people there can't afford health care.

Your system needs to change. I bet insurance companies are making a killing?

i argued this with every damn libtard i could, but according to them i am just a selfish bitch who wanted to deny poor people healthcare. i could not make a dent into their bullshit.

we are being loaded into national healthcare even though we don't want it and we will end up with long lines and lousy care just like the morons in europe and north of the border who think 24 months wait for a cataract operation is normal. 1doh1

i was pretty indifferent about the turd in the white until he passed this lousy legislation.

I posted a long time ago this is what companies were going to do.

The fine for AT&T would have amounted to $2,000 per employee, costing the company a grand total of $600 million a year. Maintaining benefits, meanwhile, will cost the firm some $4.6 billion.

So they can save 4 billion a year and tell employees to get their own coverage.

Just what did government Think companies were going to do??

Always the unintended consequences.......

Nope. This is exactly the plan and always has been. Obama wants a one payor system. This way we will "choose" to join the one payor plan, and all be at the mercy of the health czar.

Funny, the young GOPers bitch about it but they are covered under their parents policies now. I see your point but they have not considered how to tax it correctly.

Here there are huge taxes on alcohol and smokes.

These huge taxes pay for the hospitals. This is fair because these items causes so much illness so if you wish to do them, then you pay the lions share of the health bill like you should.

I will actually be firing employees at year end to get under the minimum number so that I am not included in Obamacare. Good honest people that work hard and earn their pay.

If Obama wins in November, unemployment is going to shoot through the roof.

OP, I would not quit a good paying job in this economy - it is going to get much worse if Obama wins. It will be next to impossible to find another that pays nearly as well - supply and demand...

If you are on GLP and done enough research, well doctors aren't exactly your best friend and there's a cure for everything.... so why don't you opt out of any insurance and just be healthy? I haven't had health insurance for 2 years now and eating healthy and taking vitamins... doctors are worthless and just wanna take your money for dumb stuff that is curable without them going in and messing it up more for you becoming dependent on their worthless prescriptions that keep you staying sick with the band-aid method. WAKE THE FUCK UP YOU DON'T NEED THEM OR THEIR INSURANCE. just saying. its really upsetting to me.

Oh well, at least it'll be fun in the "end of days" when all these people are standing in judgement and have to justify themselves. That'll be fun.

I heard my former company told all future retirees you will not receive any medical insurance even though they were just paying a small amount of it. There was also something else they will cut for future retirees. I think it something about 401k.
