Why am I at college?

What's your major?

Its worth it if you are doing it for yourself and not a job, parent,uncle,friends,money. Just the experience and education. Im trying to start school but that question keeps getting in the way. I constantly have to revert back to "is this for me?"

It's overrated, especially right now.

IMHO business (not including accounting) is a pretty useless degree. Why not try a STEM field?

Why not see it through in case nothing happens? If shit does hit the fan then bail and get to your family, no sense throwing away what you've already accomplished because of things that MIGHT happen.

Good point. I mean us here that visit this site are just assuming what might happen. We don't know for sure, so I might as well.

My youngest daughter is in her first year at a big name college. She has changed her major to Accounting, with a minor in Business. She is confident she will get a good paying job when she graduates. For right now, she has been working for 3 years at a local business. She has aspirations to make it big, and I believe she will. I think a lot of it is attitude. Do not set yourself up to fail. Think positive. The economy is not good, and we do not know when the world will end, but we must go about our business of life, in the meantime.

Watch a doc called "college conspiracy" and tomorrow night let me know how you feel.

You have it easy with a business major... try engineering, then come back and say your school work is hard.

Or, instead of wasting time working a job that isn't going to do anything for your future, take a weekend or a few days to go do something fun, like camping or something. Get out of the classroom, off the GLP and get some fresh air, and realize there is still fun to be had out there in spite of the seemingly impending doom.

i got a degree in chemistry. plenty of jobs there..

Run from this place while you still can...Don't waste your parents money worrying about the end of the world. Graduate and get a job then you can waste your life on this site. Trust me man...I'm trying to save you lol.

He won't be throwing anything away if he were to drop what he's doing. Not saying he should. He can always complete it several years from now. I think the job situation is going to get much worse. The lady who cuts my hair has a 4 year degree, I think in business, and can't find a job with it. It's a tough call.

If I were younger I'd teach myself a second language. Computer based instruction is all u need.

Sounds pretty difficult. One of the main reasons I chose business is because I can handle the workload and there's reasonable jobs out of college. I can also keep my social life (partying) lol

You are always better off with education,or an in demand skilled trade. A college degree is better than none. Business is actually not so bad in terms of demand.

It may all go to hell in a hand basket tomorrow but I am 43 and my parents tell me that they were terrified when they had me that they were bringing me into a doomed world. Well it has been an awesome 43 years and it isn't over. Invest in your future. You probably have one.

you need to be located in a fairly high tech area though, there aren't a lot of chemist jobs in montana, but there sure are lots in the main industrial areas.

Whats your GPA?

Have you considered a major that has job openings?

Accounting, Nursing, Pharmacy, Engineering (I'm sure there are more).

Are you going deep into debt?

The money you spend on a degree could be invested in your future in other ways (house / open a business).

I speculate that 50% of the people in college don't belong there. My list starts with art majors, but not so bright marketing guys (soon to be salesmen on the draw) should really ask the question.

*** The big 10 social life is enough reason to enjoy the ride - if the world's going to crash & burn, no where is better to enjoy the show than a sorority house...

it's a big field from oil, to pharma (ugh) to medical device, to lab QC jobs.

there's a lot of companies i would never work for, i would go back to delivering pizza like i did in college before i did lab work for them.

I currently am holding a 3.4 which I guess is pretty good. I just know how to get by.

To be honest I haven't even really looked into other majors I should probably see my academic advisor.

Luckily, I'm not going deep into debt. I have great parents who invested in my college future, I'm lucky and blessed.

I most likely will change my major very soon, marketing isn't for me I can feel it. Maybe something in politics or law.

And I completely agree, my school is a great time and the girls are absolutely stunning. It gets tough to control myself
