I was just watching a doc on 1973 Arab-Israeli war did you know US and Russia came close to nuclear war ?

Yup, just about as close as Cuban Missile Crisis.

Israel was loosing a lot of tanks in the Sinai and US kept bringing in more with C5's

Finally, Israel encircled the Egyptian Army in the Sinai and they broke thru crossing the Suez.

At that point they could take out SAM sites and gain air superiority.

IDF tanks now were heading to Cairo.

That is when USSR decided to send the bombers to Israel to nuke them.

Israel backed off.

Lessen learned by Israel is next time to use preemptive attacks when danger is imminent.
