These threads always make me so ... bewildered.
All of you fucking americans know how the system of dining out works.. you tip for service. bottom line. servers earn tips in america, they don't get paid hourly (very little).
abroad, completely different.

bottom line is that the system is NOT perfect.

but your server is counting on your tip to make a living.
i have not had a pay check in over a year, and it is not because the owners are being shady, it's because my hourly wages cover just enough (but probably not even when tax time comes) to pay my taxes.

. you never know how a little sympathy and a lil extra tip can change someone's day.

as a server i believe in karma and usually tip well over 20%, usually 35-40.
i love dining out and will ALWAYS take care of my waiter/ server. waiting tables/ tending bar and dealing with the public in general can be one of the most stressful, trying, frustrating, exhausting jobs ever, but when you have the right clientele, taking care of people who GET IT, it can be incredibly rewarding and fun work.

cheers!

i feel sorry for you mate....
you still don't get the point do you?

why aren't the waiters in America paid a legal wages???
why are their employers aloowed by the governement and the unions to get away with paying human beings, in this day and age and in a civilized country, only $2.50 an hour???
this is the crux of the matter.

why is it illegal in all other civilized western countries to underpay staff to below the minimum wages, but it is not illegal in America???

it should be illegal.

so why doeant your government and your unions do something about it? and FORCE the employer to pay the minimum legal wages.???

this has nothing to do about customers tipping or not...tipping is a demeaning and disgusting practice. and innocent waiters staff should NOT be put in such a position of having to depend on the generosity of their clients so they can take enough money home to feed themselves...

your government should enact laws to protect these people from teh exploitation of unscrupoulous employers.
capisce?
