With all due criticism of Obama, the bailouts for the auto industry were authorized in December 2008 under Bush's government, a month before Obama took office.

So Salty, you wanna just write off 1.45 million jobs because you don't like a President?

That's way more un-American than the bailout...
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1169

Letting companies fail was part of the American way when we had capitalism in this country. Can't have capitalism without failure. You also can't have capitalism with government bailouts. By having the government pick winners and losers, companies have no incentive to better the goods or services they offer because they will always be bailed out. Those bailed out autoworkers would have had to work at other automotive companies or get some other type of job.

Not every job is worth saving. I bet nobody feels sorry for all the people who were working at stores like Blockbuster, Borders Books and Best Buy and got laid off. Every time you buy a foreign product or shop online, you're voting for the destruction of American jobs. Your clothes were made in South America, your electronics were made in Asia and that e-book you downloaded on Kindle could have been bought at Barnes and Noble. Admit it, you love low prices and don't care at all where the products come from as long as someone isn't pointing out inconvenient facts.

Thats what ends up happening in Abrahamistic countries like the U.S.

Christianity sees that humans fail, and the first step in the self-destruction is failure of it's industry

President Obama is proud of his bailout of General Motors. That’s good, because, if he wins a second term, he is probably going to have to bail GM out again. The company is once again losing market share, and it seems unable to develop products that are truly competitive in the U.S. market.

Right now, the federal government owns 500,000,000 shares of GM, or about 26% of the company. It would need to get about $53.00/share for these to break even on the bailout, but the stock closed at only $20.21/share on Tuesday. This left the government holding $10.1 billion worth of stock, and sitting on an unrealized loss of $16.4 billion.

Bank of America Ramps Up Job Cuts

Bank of America Corp. BAC -1.29% is accelerating a broad cost-cutting plan and has set a target of shedding 16,000 jobs by year's end—cuts that would see the company relinquish its title as U.S. banking's largest employer.

Number of Employees breakdown for GM both full and part time
Number of Employees shows total number of permanent full time and part time employees working for a given company and processed through its payroll.

GM

Number of Employees

Full Time + Part Time = 210 K

It's not just Gm employees that suffer if they fail. All the companies that supply items for production, the car dealers that sell only GM, the local area town business that the GM workers go to, those businesses suppliers, etc etc etc. It would have a domino effect that will reach far further than just the 210K GM company employees. Not saying I agree with another bailout or anything.

Oh, we grasp it you stupid fuckhole, It's just that it's not my responsibility to subsidize the employees of a failed company.

Subsidize failure and you get more of it. Keep subsidizing and there won't be anything left to subsidize.

So poster who said "Exactly!!! Some here just don't grasp these things.....

How about an answer, so maybe we can "grasp" why failure should be subsidized.
