POLICE are currently monitoring a protest in Birmingham city centre.
At around 3pm today (Friday 21 September), a number of people started to gather near to the Bullring.
Local officers remain at the scene.
The motive for the protest remains unclear at this time.
No crimes have been reported. It is estimated that around 100 people are in attendance.

Shops and businesses in the city remain open although some have taken the decision to temporarily limit access to their premises.

West Midlands Police have no power to ban a static protest - in fact the right to protest peacefully is a sign of a healthy democracy and we have a positive duty to facilitate that right.
