Only people who pay more than they are legally required to pay in income tax can legitimately criticize Romney and that is a very small group. They can criticize the system that creates the rate, but even that would be based on ignorance of how corporations are taxed. The fact is that Romney, as a major stockholder in several corporations pays a combined 44% tax rate on taxable receipts earned by his corporations. That's why even Obama complained about the high tax rate on corporations in his SOTU speech.

Democrats are going to make themselves look like idiots if they try and make this a cornerstone issue of the campaign. Gingrich already is, although given Romney's attacks on him, I think he's entitled.
