I Just Made Friends with my Middle-Eastern Neighbors

Long story of how I came across this that doesn't matter much that involves a full circle of sorts with a story of spreading love that tries to tell itself...

I have many friends through work of Iraqi, Iranian, Pakistani, and Indian descent and so I'd be curious to hear of your neighbors' story - of any pieces of it you've come to know in the meantime.

I remember 9/11/01 clearly. As we were watching the news, short on gas to go get food, and dreading the overinflated $5/gal prices - we decided to order pizza.

The delivery guy was a Russian immigrant and his English was very poor, but he was very polite and friendly, yet to me seemed to be beside himself. After giving him the tip (I was chosen to answer the door), he let out about the attack, and how it saddened him.

He brought his family to America to escape the terrorist attacks happening near their home in Russia. I could feel his pain, that a choice he'd made that he believed to be what's best for his family was being second-guessed.

He said, and I remember the phrasing clearly, "It's just not right - we came here to get away from all of that", with a tear in his eye.

My first daughter was to be conceived a month later, and I didn't know her mother very well - and had second-guessed the purpose behind my relationship with her nearly ever since.


Oh, and I love your hat cat, OP! That's it - sorta roundabouts way of how I saw this. Shame it was paid no attention, it really is.

Whoa I thought this thread was long buried and gone. I actually moved out of the state on an unrelated matter. Before I did, the gentlemen that lived next door moved to another house and I haven't really kept up.

Thanks to those that realize what we need is acceptance and love, it truly beats the drum of life.

Its hard to see all the negativity following this post. I don't have a prob with anybody's right to religion; extremists are another matter. And you will have those with any religion whether it be Muslim or Christian, etc.

Anytime you feel hatred, it will affect your health. One can certainly make the assumption that any stress causes some auto-immune dysfunction and reaction, as well as affects blood pressure and suppression of growth hormones.
