The city crooks saw this as a direct challenge to their absolute power and had to put this citizen in his place. The myth that only government can fix problems must be perpetuated. I agree with the person in this thread that the real issue is that some crony business partner of the government didn't get a contract to fix up the trashy, hellhole of a lot. I liked the part in the article where one of the crooks stated that one of their goals is to limit taxpayer liability. Forget limiting taxpayer liability, this individual eliminated taxpayer liability by using his own money and resources to beautify a trash-heap left by the city crooks. I bet if the individual had been black, Obama would have congratulated the man and even flown out to see him...only after appearing on shows like Letterman, Leno and The View...of course.

We, the people, will clean up our neighborhoods if we please. The dust rag has been thrown.

Seems too many lawsuits are frivolous and too many wealthy folks trying to bend people to their will through the courts.

We recently had something similar out here. It is a Pioneer Cemetery, the neighbors have taken over the grounds keeping. They were issued an order to cease and desist. Seems the city would rather have it overgrown and weed infested rather than cared for. Sad time we live in.

I think this man should take his coffee shop to another country...does rational thinking, civic mindedness and responsibility exist anywhere on the face of this planet??

And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe—the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God.

Lincoln's economic advisor Henry C. Carey explained the universal issue in his 1851 Harmony of Interests:

"Two systems are before the world.... One looks to pauperism, ignorance, depopulation, and barbarism; the other to increasing wealth, comfort, intelligence, combination of action, and civilization. One looks towards universal war; the other towards universal peace. One is the English system; the other ... the American system, for ... elevating while equalizing the condition of man throughout the world."

I just don't get it. It was a few retired neighbors that took over care taking out of respect. You would think the city would say "thanks", but no - they have to get nasty about it. Said it was historically correct to have it taken over by weeds and blackberries. I'm sure most sane people disagree.

The city land is not owned by the city employees. It is owned by the residents of that city.
