This is crazy.
Blending two of the catchiest songs of 2012, a 23-year-old SoundCloud user has made a mashup of Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” with PSY’s “Gangnam Style” and the tune’s viral success has taken everyone — including the musician — by surprise.
“Honestly it started off as a joke between my cousin and me. He was dancing ‘Gangnam Style’ to ‘Call Me Maybe’ and I decided to do a mashup,” Michael Simmons told the Daily News in his first interview with the press.
The Sacramento-area student only spent about two hours mixing the two tracks on his computer, which he said was actually pretty easy.
He ended up with 3 minutes and 16 seconds of potent pop, starting off with Korean star PSY rapping the lyrics to his breakaway hit over the very familiar string intro to “Call Me Maybe.”
