The image you see as "jesus" is actually Cesare Borgia...the son of Pope Alexander VI
Long story short -
Jesus was a Palestinian aka "Muslim looking" - the church was fighting the crusades at the time as the Muslims were taking over much of what the church had controlled.
The problem was getting the soldiers to fight people that looked like jesus - so they simply changed the image of jesus to look more European using Cesare's face. Therefore disassociating the white Europeans from the middle easterners they had to go kill.

So what Israel was also a made up name for a kingdom which some megalomaniac Hebrews created alleging some deity told them to. Before that the land was called Canaan.
