Sadly the worst is yet to come. If Obama gets back in watch out for sure. Fuel prices are a lot of the cause in price hikes, an Obama, in his own words, want high energy cost.
 Quoting: Desert Fox

BINGO....
Fuel, government regulations compliance, coming Obamacare taxes, etc all effect the price of food.

And every single one of those costs gets passed on the end consumer.

YOU!

This is just my opinion but it has nothing to do with inflation, and everything to do with GAS PRICES!!!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24269398

Also, I would like to express that our current situation does have to deal with the value of the dollar. As the dollar goes down in value, countries are demanding more dollars for the fuel.

Mr. Obama has shut down much of our domestic energy capablities. We have enough natural gas to last 200 years and it is not difficult to convert a car to run on natural gas. This is deliberate to destroy our country.
 Quoting: Macraider

Yes it is, to support the dollar through Petrodollar sales worldwide

1)they must keep increasing the price of oil, 2)because the use of Petrodollars is decreasing, 3)because consumption of oil is plummeting; while they print it (dollar) into toilet paper. The reason there is no domestic production and the gobermant is against it is because this is their means to export freshly printed dollars (inflation distribution to the whole world because the American Dollar is the worlds reserve currency) Also another reason that Green energy has been, what seems to be a Goberm4ent mandate while at the same time they are making sure it fails so that they can continue to export inflation.
You also realize, that is the reason they have exported all the jobs - because if employment is allowed to get a foothold here domestically the Production, Investment and output would overwhelm that exported inflation rate and kill the Dollar sooner rather than later. This is all by design of course.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 11905544

You get 5 stars for this reply. Exporting inflation is something most people have either forgotten or never considered. You can add a lot more the the list of reasons why so much industry is encouraged to move off shore.

Cut back in other areas and don't spend any money on entertainment. Let the tax payers foot the bill. I use local WIFI, a state run gun range and the local lake has great fishing. I spend very little....

Groceries are up at least 40 percent since the first of the year here in Alaska, and more on some items.

This is only the beginning...wait until the full effects of the drought hit the supply chain. Now is the time to stock up on beef, pork and poultry. Many producers sent their breeding stock to slaughter when they could not find feed at any price.

One of the cut backs coming Jan 1st is 'farm price supports'. Maybe a farmer can weigh in on the impact of that.....

commodities r going up cause the $ is not worth much. QE3 will make it worse & the sheepoeple will b told it is inflation. I understand that almost all of the QE3 $$ is going overseas 2 the banksters. A silver dime is worth about $3, in 1964 it was worth 10 cents.

Wow.... We went to Costco tonight in Northern California, and the choice beef was $19.99 per POUND !! Also, everything we normally buy has gone up by at least -$1.00 - The organic whole chickens were 2 for $20 2 months ago, and NOW they are $30 to $35 for same 2 chickens!!

NOW, food for a family of four is costing $375 every 2 weeks (no food stamps here). Our weekly food bill has doubled this year!! Inflation is before our eyes. I had an anxiety attack shopping. I am very particular in purchasing REAL WHOLESOME FOODs for my family. I no longer buy any corn products because of GMOs. We stay away from high fructose corn syrup. I read the back of everything I buy and I find myself putting most of the food back on the shelf because of the junk in it.

My business that I have had for over 23 years is failing. For the first time in my life, I am very worried and concerned. I am making major changes to my life asap because I do not see any other way to survive. I take pride in taking care of myself and family. I do not want to go onto the governments tit for support. Is anyone else seeing the changes that I am seeing or struggling like I am struggling??

My spouse wants us to sell everything we own and move to IDAHO. Spouse wants us to prepare for a complete financial and government collaspe and he wants to grow and raise our own food. What do you think (your opinion is welcomed)??

I say pick up, and move. I lived in South Central Idaho (Burley) for a few years, it was pretty nice. There were a lot of friendly people, and lots of resources down there. They had a boat regatta on the snake river every year there. That was fun to watch. I live in Northern Wyoming now, not far from, "Devil's Tower". I only moved here for more money. Now I love it, because of the open space, and nice scenery! Hardly anyone one lives here! I grow a garden every year, there are plenty of deer, antelope, and slow elk. We have No taxes on food, no state tax, and we always seem to have the lowest gas prices in the nation. I have lots of wind, for my wind generator. Some people do not like that part. I have lots of wood, for my wood stove. Also, the cold winters here, keep out a lot of the riff raff!

As they dont want to export output (stuff made by Americans) they want to export and distribute "inflated or freshly printed dollars"

To me it is very clear that there will soon be an economic collapse. It will be hard to live, impossible if you end up homeless from trying to hold onto a lifestyle that may be at the margin of your capability even now.

Cities will become dangerous. Food will be scarce as will jobs.

Do your best to prepare for what you think will happen. Whatever you do I recommend buying as much food as you can afford. Dry beans, rice, canned food, powdered potatoes, etc, etc. I could not handle having to watch my children go hungry.

California is a place that may not be very desirable soon. Some would say it isn't very desirable now, but I know there are some nice places there.

I am a farmer in northwest wisconsin. What I see the people that are complaining the most are the ones that are buying organic products. You people are wasting your money most foods the regular products are just as good or even better in quality than the organic. The food companies are brainwashing you so they can mark it up more than normal and your thinking I am doing something good for my family and most of the organic lines are now owned by the large food companies anyway so your just making the big companies richer. I brought a steer to butcher not to long ago to the local butchering plant for the local locker and there were to run downed bad looking cows and I asked them who they belonged to and he said the organic dairy farm and I know that he will get more per pound for that poor quality hamburger than I will for my nice healthy cow. I would rather eat my commercial raised cows anyday. We test all our treated cows before they go back in the tank for milk and we follow all slaughter holds on the animals that are shipped for meat. Also the number of animals that even have been treated in the last year before they go to market is so small anyway. If we ever get caught with a residue we are in big trouble so it does naot make since to send questionable animals to market

. . . get something with a good roof and a free-running stream on your property [check to make sure youarenot in a flood zone]. Youwill need wood, so get something with trees on it. Remember to save out money for a good generator, woodstove and coal stove. Put the coalstove in your basement [make sure you get a place with a dry basement], and wood stove on your mainfloor for individual room heat and cooking and hot water.

You can have more than one woodstove in more than one room [one in the kitchen and one in the livingroom just for comfort]. Put a chickenwire door on your basement door to the main floor of your house for heat from the furnace to flow upstairs. The heat from the furnace will warm the walls and floors of the entire house, and keep out the mean dampness [put your shower, laundry, butchering, pingpong table, stall for sick animals etc. in the basement] . . . HEAT RISES - cold falls. Your basement will be your most important room in your house, so get a good, clean and serviceable one.[the day may come when you need to wall/block up the windows and doors] . . . most of your guns and bullets should be in the basement, so make sure you get a dry, as possible, basement . . .

In the meantime get the ball rolling for Food Stamps and Medicaid. Just go get the forms and fill them out; keep your appointments and wait and wait and wait and wait, while youare selling, moving and running for your life . . . your foodstamp etc. application information may follow you . . . keep it alive, and think of yourself as standing in a very, long line .

Good dairy goats are better than big cows. If a cow gets sick and dies youhave nothing. If a dairygoat gets sick and dies, you still have the other 5. Breed them in season, yes, but out of season also, so that you have milk, cheese and butter in the Winter as well . . . the meat of the kids is sweet.

Laying-hens need a rooster or three to warn of danger to the hens, especially at night. Keep the henhouse close to your house so you can hear the hens and roosters screaming in case of fox etc. Youwill need electricity for the henhouse in the winter, if you want eggs. Ithas to do with light and keeping the water unfrozen.

Stop worrying ! Youare going to LOVE it out there in your new place.

I can say this is true. I put my cats DRY food in a brown lunch bag and within minutes the bag started to spot. But it could be something else i am unaware of...

Look at the microwave popcorn packs. Now when you open them they are full of grease or whatever it is.In the past the bags were dry when you opened them to put in the microwave.
Last box of Orville R that I bought it had leaked out of the wrappers onto the cardboard carton.Date was good, thought just a bad pack so got a different brand, same thing. Not sure why that is happening but sure makes you wonder if you should eat it.

We did it (moved--to Montana.) Start NOW (or a couple years ago), learning how to raise food. It's hard work, you need LOTS of non-hybrid seeds and water, you have to figure out how to protect your garden from deer, pests like marmots, rabbits, gophers, weeds, bugs, etc. Gardens only grow for a few months, so you have to have hundreds of jars and lids, and two kinds of canners (water bath for fruits and high acid foods, a pressure canner for meats and vegetables) to save food for the winter, and for trade for other needed items. You need to learn how to can properly to avoid poisoning your family. Forget freezing food--the grid will be gone. You will work all day every day just raising and preserving food. It's very complicated; start learning!!

you are fortunate the wife wants to leave. while my wife is overall a great wife, she has this attachment to the NYC tri state area where I pay $24,000 in property taxes alone for an admittedly nice house and just under 2 acres. Her excuse has been, 'the schools are good, let's move when we are empty nesters'. I am champing at the bit to move either south, or out west for saner costs though I know i will not be able to escape rising good prices. That is every where unless you hunt down your own meat and farm.

Approximate Current Market Prices in central Mexico, converted to dollars and pounds.

Most cuts of meat from butcher shops - $2 per pound
Eggs(they sell per kilo here), but around $1.20 per dozen
Cheese, various types, around $4 per pound
Potatoes (white rose) - 15 cents per pound
Tomatoes - 30 to 40 cents per pound
(tomato prices are high right now and normally sell at the price of potatoes)
Beans - $.80 to $1.50 per pound
Corn - $.30 per pound.

Most of these things sell in the tiangis open air markets directly from the people who grow it locally, or just one seller removed the people who grow it, as in the butchers.

All that violence you hear about is CIA induced Psyops, and they occur at the northern boarder states. You don't want to live in the frikken desert anyhow do you. I suggest that if someone moves to Mexico that they only live in regions south of Mexico City.

Mexico can be a very safe place to live for one who already knows the areas and local knowledge, but regardless, if foreigners consider relocating they should have a family they already know well and trust somewhat in the region they want to live in, to help them with all the adjustments.

Hubby here: Its me that wants to move. She wants to stay. She is very attached also like your wife.
I am 46. Young enough to rebuild our lives and I actually crave the challenge. About 4 months ago I caught a strange viral infection in my lungs that nearly killed me (3 days on life support).
I have since fully recovered but it has changed me.
I want to experience farm life. I am completely green I admit. But I really long for a more real existence.

Re: Soaring Food Prices !!! OMG!!!
I live in the MidWest..In a Farming/Cattle community...one year ago I could feed my family of 4 on $400 per month (including feeding 3 dogs and a turtle)--7yrs ago I fed my family of 5 on $300 a month and went out to dinner and bought clothes and luxury items on less then an extra $200 per month. We had two bank accounts-one for bills and one for groceries..Every month $1200 was put into the grocery account and at the end of the month there was always around $200. after groceries and luxuries were bought. We even used it for going out to dinner and Date nights.. and still had that $200. left over each month. Now, even thought we have several accounts (for various reasons) all are used to survive the monthly bills and food--We spend around $1200. per month (family of 4) for food (my oldest and her baby had to move in with us- so our family of 4 became 6 and I have no idea WHAT it will cost now)..Just bought a gallon of milk, cost over $4. and that was the store brand.
We shop at Wal-Mart as there are NO 'Organic' stores here..and I am at work when the Farmers Market is open. I try to buy organic/gmo/steroid/hormone free foods...

We have been trying to have 'extra' canned/dried goods for emergencies--and have had to dip into those just to get by for the month...

Gardening is out, as my husband and I both work 55+hrs per week.

My daughter who just moved in was lucky to land a job quickly, but she is working 50+ hrs now too.. and so her little one is at daycare-the other 2 in school..So no help for home gardening in the summer as they are in need of care while at work.

My 2nd child is struggling and has asked to move back home too. If that happens, I hope she can also find a job quickly...and I REALLY hope she does move back home ( I want all my children right here with me if/when SHTF).

My only consolation is that I raised my kids to survive anything...and we all know how to grow/can/dry etc.. food and how to raise farm animals and properly slaughter them. We can all hunt with bow/gun/trap/fish. They even know (to some degree) how to recognize edible/medicinal wild plants and how to use them. I keep my books on these plants close!

I have taught them to sew and darn clothes.
I am in the process of learning how to tan hides.

there is so much left to learn though, like how to make oil for fire, how to make soap from nothing-because you will not be able to buy the 'basic' forever.

I feel like even though we have prepared we are not prepared enough.

Globally the whole populace of the World is screwed and no amount of money is going to fix it nor feed it. Hoarding is not going to save anyone (honestly), nor is digging a hole in the ground for shelter. These are just temporary and band-aides...

Sorry OP for rambling!

I believe you are right. Most the organic crap out there is worse than the regular foods. There is hardly any regulations to meet and they just stamp a ticker on it saying organic.Consumer reports did an article not long ago showing tests on organic foods.More arsenic, etc in the organic than regular foods etc.Its all about the outrageous prices they can fool people into paying. If you arent getting it from a local farmer that you know as fact how its grown then its plain ole grocery store food in most cases.
Free range chickens and and the eggs are in a cage with a couple of feet space to walk around but most people assume they are on some blissful farm roaming freely...so you get to pay 3 times the price.

Re: Soaring Food Prices !!! OMG!!!

Food here in Canada is going through the roof also. Last week I went to Bulk Barn to buy some pine nuts....they were $33.+ a llb. What a shocker!

A few years ago, I started making some of my own products, like detergent, toothpaste, even some medicines. In the Winter, I use my crockpot a lot. I make batch meals in it & freeze them for later use. Now I use my washer/dryer after 7pm, because of the new 3-tiered rates the hydro company has come up with. Its cheaper rates are evenings & weekends. I also "sometimes" make my own breads, cakes etc.. Making your own products is healthier & way less expensive.

Recently I discovered Aquaphonics for growing veggies. Check it out on you-tube. If you have the space for it, this is a good way to go. Also, buy from your local small organic farmers. Try not to buy from the food giants.
If you do move to Idaho....maybe if you have a patch of land, you could have some chickens, goats & veggies. Its easy to make your own butter & peanut butter. If you can afford it, buy a Vitamix blender. You will not regret it. Good luck & start soon.
