Re: You are now banned from owning gold in argentina
Last week 3.000 argentineans travelled from Buenos Aires to Las Vegas to assist to the "maravilla" martinez box match against chavez Jr from mexico.
3000 people for a single event travelled more than 5.000 miles. And plane tickets here cost above U$D 1600 to las vegas. And media still talking about that argentineans can't buy dollars or travel to other countries...
Keep in mind this:
Argentina GDP in 2003 u$d 5.000
2012 u$d 55.000

Argetinean exports in 2003 u$d 5.000 mill.
2011 u$d 80.000 mill.

The problem here is that our goverment its trying to take out the dollar from our economic sistem to get economic autonomy from international banks who try to manage argentinean economy putting dollars in it....
That's why argentinean goverment have so much bad media.
And im not part of the goverment or even voted for them.

THEY ARE a bunch of crooks like the vice president, Boudou, De vido, Jaime, Miceli, and so on

they are running huge deficits and they are creating the same controls like in Venezuela: to win some time until a massive devaluation takes place.

I bet the Buenos Aires Jewelry district makes a killing on this law, both coming and going. It is good to be a Jeweler.

"counterfeiting" when, in reality, the fed reserve does it all day every day.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4420584

Fractional reserve banking is counterfeiting. They say they have ten bucks so they can create 100 bucks in credit out of thin air. How can banks have a banking crisis when they lend nothing , get paid back in full plus interest? It's obviously all set up to have an economic collapse. A lot of somebodies need 8 feet of Nuremberg rope.

nop. jewellers are under massive attack. 45% taxes and more.
they can´t even show their faces. AFIP is out there.

retard goverment keeps them on the black market.
they could lower taxes and make more income from them while creating jobs for a change.
totally retard socialist government.

I'm sure you are correct about things on main street, In reality I know little about this situation, but come-on. This is Latin America. People with influence can get around these laws, and most people deal outside of the law and taxes anyhow (but that opens up extortion and murder problems down the road, huh?).

But really though, what if a jeweler were to make something from his own materials (gold), which perhaps were not purchased officially, and sells the merchandise without a receipt (so the client can avoid the 45% tax), or charges the tax and does not report it. There are a lot of angles by which one can chisel gold without the gooberment finding out I am sure.

And what is to stop family and friends from trading between each other without reporting it?

like,
'I'm the jeweler. Some friends in the community are getting married, (and I'm well connected fwiw) and I know the kid and he can't afford the wedding rings. So my tio padrasto has a lot of gold he cant sell and lets me have some under the table, just so long as I never deny him a favor, same deal I get with the nice kid who is getting married. So the deal is done, I make the jewelry made, and a web of deals is created that bind the community toghether.'

can I have my Good Citizen award now?

fisher_sun

It would not surprise me at all though if the fat cats running your government are stupid enough to bankrupt the government, even when your economy in general is growing at a healthy rate. There are no limits to how much money politicians can waste, loose, and hidey-hole away.

Thanks you, I was about to point that out. Americans and the British may understand what a corrupted system means, but they will never fully grasp the concept of a system based on corruption.

That, ... or maybe Argentina authorities are aware that something will happen that will drastically lower gold prices. Either a great increase in supply, or a great reduction in demand.

...and for this reason maybe, they don't want so much foreign gold being dumped into the economy. That is what the story indicated that the government wanted to curtail the importing of large amounts of gold from the US and Switzerland into Argentina.

Now I start to understand all the lies about Venezuela. The media will keep liying untill the people who is in the goberment start to do the things that they want...
Argentina economy still growing above 5% per year since 2003,and the next year will grow about 4,4%....
But cause we have a goverment eho is taking away the dollar from our economic systen, they are bad, soooooo bad!!!
Hahaha!

I'm in the process of buying a house, the real estates here will sell you in US dollars at good price (because basically they know almost no one will have these amounts in dollares in first place thanks to current regulations), but if you try to buy using the argentinean Pesos, you have a problem.

The official change between the 2 currencies is 1 dollar = 4,7 Pesos... problem being that according to ALL the real estates, 1 dollar = 5,7 - 6 Pesos. Go figure...

Sadly, the majority (if not all) of the current bank mortgages are ridiculously low and you can't buy shit, because they try to act like the real change is the official one and it's a complete fabrication.

In other words, if you live in Argentina and try to get a house, you will probably face tremendous difficulties.

BUT if you're a foreigner with a good amount of dollars, you have a chance to make real good business.

That is when it is better to "save" your currency in the things that are inflating. Dry goods or hardware for instance.

And if you don't have that much to invest, then you would be better going native and self sufficient in the wild areas.

When ever there are changes like this, someone on some side is profiting, and it is usually those with the money and influence to begin with.

Buy placing laws against buying or selling or large taxes on something like gold, it only creates more opportunity for the insiders who have ways to get through or around the laws, like the Jewelers and the Goldsmiths, that the average person does not have.

It is kind of like the saying,
"outlaw guns, and only the outlaws will own guns,"

Re: You are now banned from owning gold in argentina
The link OP gave is pretty much saying that gold has become more popular as "money" than fiat paper currencies, so they are regulating the purchase and sale of gold by the people for foreign exchange purposes. Sounds to me that Argentinians know very well gold has the better value over fiat paper currencies and their government is now regulating any personal gold hoarding because they are having liquidity problems.

...or another way to spin it is that criminal enterprises do not like competition. So, they do anything they can to stop it be it murder, confiscation or arrest.

In the US printing paper that looks like other paper is a crime. They call it "counterfeiting" when, in reality, the fed reserve does it all day every day.

In this case, they don't want YOU hoarding gold because they are.

In the US they don't want YOU running drugs because the CIA is.

In the US they don't want YOU running guns because the DOJ is.

Its simple: Governments always exempt themselves from what they prohibit. It is because government is the most dangerous thing created by man. Don't fear murder, or poverty or torture, just fear government. It is the root cause of those aforementioned horrors. If there is poverty, government makes it worse. If there is crime, government wants its cut. If there are drugs, guns, war, famine, etc, government wants in on it.

IN FACT!!! If there is not crime, drug smuggling, guns, war, etc, government will start it up because there is no need for government minus those things.

There is little in government that is not self-serving and/or evil.

Less government means less of all the things that you hate and less of all the things that make life miserable.

...unless of course you're part of the 47% that don't pay taxes and the rest of us support. If that is the case, then, FUCK YOU! Get a job.
