I was a small business owner in construction. I had a couple of employees. In 2009 I had to abandon that after a decade of increasing prosperity and success. I decided to go to college so that I could be a well educated unemployed person in the future. It just sounds better.

From 10 years teacher's assistant, special ed, to a caregiver at a 40 percent pay cut;
now that 10-year business is falling also, so I work part-time for a friend in her home.
I got a new degree during this time though.
It is now a 45K liability!
