Based on a 2001 study by HUD and the census bureau, only 40% of Americans own their home free and clear. I would venture to guess that number is now significantly lower as that number was only that high because of the number of retired seniors in the study. That study was eleven years ago. Some have since either died and their children have sold those houses and divided the money, they have sold their houses and either bought a camper or moved into a retirement community, or took out an equity loan because they couldn't live on their meager retiements.

Lets assume that number is down to something like 23% or lower now. Everyone else either has a rent payment, or a mortgage, or mortgage AND a home equity loan. A survey by Careerbuilers in August, 2011 found that 42% of people live paycheck to paycheck.

See where this is going? Here is what 3 months of food looks like. This is from zombiesquad.org

If a crash happens, MOST people will be out on the street relatively quickly due to the inability to pay rent or mortgage. Personally, just the ammo alone will be difficult to pack out. My car only goes about 335 mile on one tank of gas. After seeing what three months of provisions looks like, I don't think I could fit more than food in the car (and of course, a car filled with food will be the first that will be stopped and seized) What about tents, clothes, sleeping bags, etc...?

Canned goods??? Thats great if you have your own place. It is obvious now that the housing crash was planned. Isn't that how they take over a country- first bomb the houses, destroy the infrastructure? Then the people are exposed and you can pick them off? If TSHTF in the next month...how nice, just before winter when the temperatures start to drop in the United States.

The more I think about it the worse it gets....It is sounding more and more like the Hunger Games. I think, if you are not ALREADY in a place where you can hunker down and defend yourself with ample provisions, your chances of survivial are minimal at best.

Just how long can you survive without food and water? [link to adventure.howstuffworks.com]

Where is the water in that picture? You can live quite a while without food, but water is absolutely essential.

Start storing water - it's easy.

Empty bleach bottles, rinse one time and refill. Keeps forever. At Y2K I even went to laundry mats and took empty bleach bottles out of the trash. Friend asks me why I have so much bleach - why you lookin' in my closet, I say :) Label the bottles with a sharpie "WATER". Haha

Empty two liters. Wash and rinse. Add 3 drops chlorine bleach and fill with tap water.

Emergency shelter in place. Clean your tub. Use bleach. Rip down your shower curtain and lay it in the bottom of the tub and clean it. Fill the tub. Pull the shower curtain up and cover the water. You also have to make sure your drain is blocked. A flexible plastic lid over the drain will suction to the drain if there is a leak. Fill every sink pan and container you have.

Buy water purification tablets.
If your delivery sucks, it doesn't matter how right you are.
