Dr. Centeno saved my quality of live. I have had DDD since 2001 and a car accident. I have been with him since 2001. Cutting edge. I had an autologous stem cell transplant. He got me off opiates with no surgery after a decade.

One great alternative to the heavy duty muscle relaxants.
Taurine (1+grams) and a Magnesium supplement together, ideally some vitamin C to help get the Magnesium absorbed. Taurine is only very slightly sedating unlike the usual muscle relaxants.

Does massage help you?

Re: In Agony With Degenerative Disc Disease - What The Hell Do I Do??
I have degenerative disc disease from my neck to my lower back, add in advanced osteoarthritis bone spurs and narrowing of the spinal canal in a couple of spots. Had surgery on L3-L4 and L4-L5 and L5-S1 to remove the bone spurs and take out some disc. Only helped for about a year then the pain started creeping back. Tried the spinal stretching to open the disc spaces, doesn't work on me because of the bone spurs locking things up and it just caused pain.

Weight loss has helped me a little, I take 4 percocet 10-325 a day for pain. Seeing the pain doc and talking about a spinal stimulator that blocks the nerve pulses that are causing the pain.

Back pain sucks and all you can do is figure out the triggers and try to avoid them.

A Duragesic fentanyl patch, although not tolerated by everybody, can be transformative while you heal & seek alternatives. water therapy, yoga, acupuncture, a tens unit, physical therapy, supplements like turmeric, glucosamine and condroitin all have helped people tolerate constant pain. you have to experiment to find what helps you, don't give up and accept the pain.

LISTEN AND PAY HEED. If you really want to do somthing to help yourselfs then forget about surgery. For the time being ask your doctor to put you on MORAPHINE and only MORAPHINE. Does the least damage and thats what they take themselves. Then go buy an INVERSION TABLE. Start slow. Use everyday. Morning when you get up and evening before bed. You are just suffering from gravity. We pound our bodys down all our lives. Hanging on a board stretches things back out and allows things to go back into place. Little by little. I had and did the exact same thing. I don't take the moraphine anymore. I am like a 40 year old again. NO SURGERY. Better than ever.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24303692

Please do not forget yoga and water. Back pain is greatly improved bu inversion, but for this person the inversion machine may be too much. Yoga has semi inverted. Also pool work improves the opportunity to use the back with out the killing pain of gravity.
In any case dear person may God bless you and keep you, prayer said and I hope you get help from the dang bumbling med system.
peace.

Re: In Agony With Degenerative Disc Disease - What The Hell Do I Do??
OP so sorry you suffer such pain. I haven't had back pain from degenerative disks but I have had severe pain from degenerative knees. On top of that, I tripped over injured one even more. I was told by the doctors that it would have to be something I lived with.

I couldn't stand it after a while, got pretty depressed, then did some research and started taking green lipped mussel powder (you have to take the good stuff - I get mine from xtendalife). After four months of taking these pills daily all my pain is gone. The injury and the degenerative stuff - all gone. It rebuilds the elastic stuff between your joints. I highly recommend you give it a go and hang in there - my life is back to normal now. You start to feel the joints healing pretty early on as the pain starts to decrease but you need to be patient to get the full benefit. It has high anti inflammatory properties too.

It seems they have since done some clinical trials through the Queensland Medical School with very positive findings

Re: In Agony With Degenerative Disc Disease - What The Hell Do I Do??
I feel for ya. I have had two spinal surgeries and was off work a couple of years. Lost everything I had including my wife.

The ONLY thing that will help is a spinal fusion to keep the spine locked in place. They will probably do exactly what they did to me. They will go in and scrape the bulging disc away from the nerves that run along your spine, these are what is causing the leg pain. That will help for a little while until the fusion.

You will hopefully get some opiates to ease the pain until you have the first surgery. If you don't get off the pills as soon as possible you will end up taking them the rest of your life. After a while they won't work at all but you will need them to keep from getting really sick.

If you need anything just ask. Been there myself

This is EXACTLY what happened to a friend of mine.....finally after a couple of surgeries that only worked for 12 months she had a spinal fusion. This appears to have helped significantly but she still has to be careful...and yes she had terrible withdrawals from the pain meds!!!!!!!!!I am pretty sure you need to see a spine surgeon OP.I pray that you can get help.In this day and age you need a friend or relative that can advocate for you...

I am the Op....

Im so pissed right now...Been up all night in agony, so rang out of hours doc who said i have muscle spasms or a trapped nerve.. he asked if my partner could go to their place at the local hospital to pick up morphine tablets, i said no as we have no car or money to get taxi..he said you will have to wait till 8am for your gp to give you morphibe then...

At 8am, my partner went to docs to ask they come out see me and give me tablets, know what they said, we get a doctor to ring at 3pm, WTF, im in agony and they dont send doc out at night and i have to wait till 3pm for my own doc to ring me...it never use to be like this, i use to be able to ring at night and docs use to come out, not now....anyway, my partner has gone back to complain to surgery that 3pm is ridiculous...my partner just walked in and said they are ringing for a telephone consultation at 12 now...

Im fuming with the lack of care they are showing...i would ring an ambulane, however, they wont entertain me much due to me knowing what the problem is...I feel stuck in a bloody rut, in agony...I have never experienced pain like this in my life..the bottom of my spine is burning with pain...

Dont ever come to live in the UK, they dont give a fuck about you anymote....

I'm sorry your back hurts so much. I went through it for 10 years.

Finally cleaned up my diet and took lots of natural supplements. It healed up in a year and now I can do anything I want with no pain.

Some of the recent research is showing there is an infection in the spine causing degeneration of the disks.

Pain killers and muscle relaxants are needed, heavy dute stuff. The muscle spasms makes things worse, and you can't stop it otherwise.

Then lots of rest. Perhaps try the inversion machine, or a good chiropractor.

The pain should eventually diminish to the point where you can live relatively normal again.

Then live the rest of your life with much caution. NEVER twist your back under load! ALWAYS move carefully! Exercise to build back and gut muscle, but use extreme caution during exercise too, so you don't make things worse.

Another important thing, is to buy a good expensive office chair to your computer. Every piece of furniture you sit in should be ergonomic.

Your back is fucked for life, but the pain can go away, and you can lead a normal life, within limits, as long as you learn to stay within the boundaries of movement your back has.

I don't recommend the spinal fusion surgery as anything other than an absolute last resort. I've worked in a hospital, and let's just say the results aren't always good. Some patients get better, but some also get a lot worse.

I have found a testimonial from a man who had severe back and knee degeneration and how he found a new life. There is an option to contact him and ask him about it.

It boils down to green lipped mussel powder again...so it does work for severe back degeneration.

Thank you for your advice...

With regards to Morphine, they are VERY reluctant to give it out in the UK due to people getting hooked on it or something....

I have been taking Zapain, which is Codeine Phospate 30mg & paracetamol 500mg mixed together...These usually take the edge of the pain away, however, since last Monday, I have had these muscle spasms and/or Nerve trapping real bad and the Zapains haven't done anything...That's why I had to ring docs and get the Tramadol on Friday. They are suppose to be stronger than Zapain but I haven't seen no pain relief from these either....

Might get one of them inversion tables...Willing to try anything to be honest...Thinking about it, is this similar to what they do in hospital when they put you on Traction or something..Sounds the same sort of stuff but the do it a different way...

They will always say that ops are addictive. Just tell your doctor so is sex and coffee and cigarettes. Just keep going in and even exagerated the pain really act and keep bothering them and he will give in to you. Those other pills are the shits. They are beta blockers and shut down your brain. OPS are natural. The inversion tables are great. They really do work. They realease so much pressure it isn't even funny. I also joined a rec center and would do streches in the pool. Your totally weightless and it feels good. I will always have and use my table. I can dump myself all the way over now. It really helps with circulation also which in turn aids your back and the nerves. Every day when you get up tell your back that your helping it and its going to get better. It Will. Just start slow. 30% then work your self up. I'm really pulling for you. I know what kind of pain your in. God Bless.

phuck tha dumb shit.....want pain relief?
get gabapentin or neurontin and take with tramadol 3-4 times a day

[link to www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

and use omega 3 or shite loads of walnuts for arthritic flare ups

percocets for really bad pain

morphine and lortabs are not the proper types of medicine for this type of pain

Re: In Agony With Degenerative Disc Disease - What The Hell Do I Do??
The disc is inflamed?

Ok,

Why is it inflamed?

Why does it not heal ( if through standard cell replacement you get new skin every 3 years, and a completely new body every 7-10 years )?

A: it is in an acid bath, so even the new cells in the disc area cannot thrive and rebuild the disc?

Ok,

So when you have an injured area and you have constant introduction of both foreign proteins and pathogen load that are making their way into the bloodstream via the nutrient absorption point in the gut, where do they settle but at an injury site?

If the injury site is under siege, what does the body do to keep these things from setting up shop and further infecting?

It goes further acid at the wound site?

What happens when a wounded disc goes further acid?

It swells and further compresses against the nerve causing nerve pinch and further pain?

Ok,

How do you eliminate and neutralize the un-neutralized animal proteins and pathogen load condition and resulting acid bath conditions allowing the body to heal itself?

1). Stop the infection, the low level good poisoning load and new un-neutralized foreign protein load?

How do you do that?

Eat only Alkaline forming food.

Add in super Alkalizing substances to actively shift the system PH Alkaline.

GSE ( Grapefruitseed Extract ) will shift the PH and neutralize the pathogen load and the foreign protein load. 50-100 drops daily. Cayenne capsules 3-5 daily. Lemons are one of the most Alkaline forming foods.

If your body had sufficient Iodine as the active firewall in the gut and tissues of the stomach lining so that the stomach was able to create enough hydrochloric acid to digest what you ingest and as further active ingredient to the immune system in all tissues at the cellular level, and in the thyroid where the entire blood supply passes every 22 minutes, and at the wound site these conditions would not compound. The new RDA for Iodine is 50 mg. ( we are all 100 x deficient ).

Q: What I would do ( and do ..? )

Google: Alkaline Forming food charts, memorize and/or apply

Buy Nutribiotic Brand GSE and load up to take the system back

Start the Iodine along with the GSE after you have sufficiently taken back the GI tract health with GSE loading, and decent food that is not GMO that the body is not designed for ( read bar codes and skip the ones beginning w/ an 8 ). Eat Alkaline forming food and eat more simply in food combinations that don't conflict ( with required digestive juices that neutralize the other ) and digests properly. Skip gas producing foods and unripely picked foods that sit like rocks and create ferment bubbles and colic conditions in the GI tract ( which balloons the GI tract so that the striated muscles cannot close around digesting food & push things along the wagon train of the digestion - but when trying, only compresses and squeezing the balloon pressing toxic colic conditions right through enlarged pores right into bloodstream missing the built in firewall of the Iodine, and the temporary firewall of the GSE ). Never allow any sort of colic-gas conditions to go un-neutralized even for an hour or you will get headaches as you allow sabotaging of the purity of the bloodstream with colic conditions through the colon walls right into the bloodstream. Colic is the root cause of headaches and if you regularly sabotage your system, you have to keep a Simethicone containing product or an enzyme product to stop and neutralize the fermentation bubble factory/ the creation of colic conditions.

When you restore the wounded back disc environment to purity and Alkaline PH and properly digested organic building block nutrient conditions that have all pathogens in the blood and fleshy tissues the infection/ fever/ inflammation conditions will be displaced and the body will through both standard healing, and standard cell replacement, heal itself as the self- healing miracle bio-machine that it is.

Q: See more on Superhealth? Google: Future Knowledge Update and dig deep there for further answers or deep on my FB: Matt Erwin ( as many w/ that name is account currently profile pic w/ green Drumset )

This is all good. I have had $0.00 medical expenses including visits/ coverage/ ins. plans since starting GSE and then Iodine 1998 : )

Re: In Agony With Degenerative Disc Disease - What The Hell Do I Do??
I feel for you… When I have x-rays they actually asked me if I've been in a plane crash.

I've suffered for 10 years. I now have over two thirds of my spine with nothing but Mme.… Top neurosurgeons at one of the top hospitals in the United States for neurosurgery told me this would help my pain.

I have been in nothing but incredible unbearable pain… Even worse than before I went to this number one US hospital and have regretted it ever cents. I wish I could help because I don't have the answers. I know I get frustrated when I can't do the things I used to do. I was an athlete… A real adrenaline junkie so to speak. But I realize that my friend straight shooter is mean but I have not given up… I'm frustrated because I still want to live… That means I must have hope I have not decided to lay down and die or given to a morphine patch… Although I do take meds.

Ambien… A so called sleep babe… Helps my nerve pain tremendously… But the rest of the mads basically make me care less.

I keep trying one thing after another all the doctors and surgeries keep making me worse and worse over the past 10 years.

I am about to try a version of the Gersten.… Basically eating/juicing nothing but organic fruits and vegetables and doing coffee enemas… I know it sounds gross but I've tried everything else.

I'm not suggesting that you do this however you may want to look into it. I know true suffering. I know how I lived there. I feel for you like no one else without such pain could feel.

I will give you an update if you want or if you want to contact me please contact me at my dog Tonka AT g mail . Com....

I do hope to hear from you. I will respond. In the meantime you wrote this in 2012 it is now 2014. If you had found anything to help I would be more than interested to hear how you are doing.

While this thread is asking for help for myself, I hope this thread serves some advice for the many other sufferers of this condition around the world...

My Story

On and off for 10 Years I have had a bit of a sore lower left back pain...4 years ago, I was working in a public house moving a 22 gallon keg and my back cracked. I couldn't move for 15 minutes and was in agony. This resulted in me having to give up work and has up to now ruined my life...

In January 2011, I eventually had a MRI scan after 2 years of doctors fobbing me off with tablets. The MRI scan showed I had DDD, I have a number of discs on my left side bulging and impinging my Cal Sack. Also I have a disc that is Dry. I have had physio to no avail and had other tablets that don't really make a difference....

If I walk for more than 10 minutes, I keel over in pain. If I sit too long, I'm in a lot of pain. If I stand up straight for than 20 minutes, I am in pain....For 4 years this has been happening with little help from my many doctors up until May of this year...

In June, a doctor referred me to my local hospital for Spinal injections. I received a letter after a few weeks saying I had to have another MRI Scan...I had this done at the end of June and this also confirmed I had DDD...2 weeks later, I received another letter from the hospital saying that I don't qualify for Spinal Injections, my heart sank and I was stressed out...

I went back to my doctor and he has now referred me to the Pain Clinic..As of now, I am still waiting to be seen by them..

Just last Monday, I started to get this constant horrible pain on the lower left...By Wednesday the pain had moved to my lower spine, half way up my back and to my right hand side lower back...5AM Thursday morning I had to ring my out of hours surgery as I was crying in pain in bed...I was advised to take some inflammatory tablets and pain killers...I did this and all day Thursday, I had pain in my bowels and a bout of diareah...I had to stop the tablets that day....

On Friday, I had to get my doctor to ring me because I couldn't move..He gave me a prescription for Tramadol which my partner picked up for me...After taking these for 3 days now, they have not succeeded in taking any of the pain away...

I am sat here now in really bad pain, not able to sleep and scared to move in case my muscles spasm again as this is what's been happening I think...I am struggling to go to the toilet etc etc...

I have had enough, doctors don't seem to be listening. I have been to them at least 200 times in the last 4 years. I seem to be getting nowhere fast and I'm still suffering..This last week has been the worst time of my life, I have NEVER had pain so bad like this. I have been diagnosed with depression also and my mood is always low. I don't get out anywhere due to being scared of being in agony...

Yesterday was bad to a point that I nearly rang an ambulance. On a pain scale of 1-10, since last Monday, I have been hitting 8 & 9...I feel that it's pointless ringing an ambulance because they might think I'm putting it on...Also, with me knowing what I have, they won't be able to do much anyway...

Does anyone know if I should be on muscle relaxers now, as the spasms in my back are terrible. ATM, I am staying still on the couch, I have a constant ache but bearable but I know if I try and get up, It will be bad again...

Please, some help would be appreciated...Hopefully, others can look back on this thread as well to gain advice...

Thanks
zuel

Drs Dont wanna give me pain meds, thy want me to take antipsychotic meds, that Dont do anything except make me more depressed, I feel that if this continues I will just say f#ck it and off myself. I'm so fed up of drs looking down on me, and my family shouldn't have to deal with my problems. But as for now I just fake smile and hide from everyone! Re: In Agony With Degenerative Disc Disease - What The Hell Do I Do??
I am ~50 years old. Always been strong in body. At 19 I weighed 142 lbs at 5'8" and after 18 months of working out I could bench press 265 lbs cleanly 2 to 3 reps. I could do lat pull downs that weighed more than I did so I would need help getting the weight down and my legs locked in. Could to flys with 65 lb dumb bells.

30 years later I have been smoking most of my life, had a pinched nerve a decade ago that put me out of work for nearly 2 weeks. In tears due to no sleep and pain!. Now I have a sciatic nerve challenge and all that comes with it.

I have a great Chiropractor and I eat pretty healthy. But now I weigh 200 lbs. Started working out, walking 4 miles a day, some running, etc. Then this sciatic nerve thing kicked in.

Like this site, the following link is what I found while out searching. [link to www.biblelife.org]

I know this. Most of us are fat. And we are fat not because we do not exercise enough, but because we eat too much, we eat processed foods, and we eat too many carbs.

I have been blending for a few months now. Power greens from Costco with some strawberries and a protein powder. I am using the high speed Oster Versa blender. Not as good as a Vitamix, but much cheaper.

I am going to use the link page info and try to work on a better diet, no to very little carbs, not too much fruit, meat/protein and high fat diet and see if I can repair the damage to my back and reduce/remove the pain.

I am also going to try as some have offered. GSE Grape Seed Extract, Kelp for the Iodine, and a Jeanie high speed massager...if I want to pay for it... :|

Best of luck to you others in pain and I suggest you start with the cheapest things you can do and check out the link.

If you are fat, admit it and go for a walk every time you are hungry. Stop eating the chips, fries, fast food, restaurant food, bread, grains in general, sugars, sodas, ice creames, frozen foods, etc.

Peace and Blessings

Sorry to hear this OP. I have Ankylosing Spondylitis which contributed to me becoming unable to work. The shots in the back did absolutely nothing. The stuff that works that i got from the ER (narcotics), they will not prescribe me. So half the day I lay in bed writhing in agony. Even getting dressed and undressed is a feat. If i did not have a daughter ( who i rarely see due to criminal family court and cultural Marxist ex wife), i would take my leave permanently. suicidemedsdead3

Re: In Agony With Degenerative Disc Disease - What The Hell Do I Do??

I have to say, my sister has an inversion table and finds it great for her back.

I hope OP can find the space for one. It helped her with mild/moderate back pain and just makes her feel good.

Oh. I would also tell you this. I lived next door to a Mayo Clinic Spine surgeon. Not that The Mayo Clinic is all that. They have gone down hill a lot in the last decade.

Regardless, the spine surgeon/friend told me to never ever have spine surgery until you had no other alternatives and the pain was unbearable. Just don't do it.

Please do not forget yoga and water. Back pain is greatly improved bu inversion, but for this person the inversion machine may be too much. Yoga has semi inverted. Also pool work improves the opportunity to use the back with out the killing pain of gravity.
In any case dear person may God bless you and keep you, prayer said and I hope you get help from the dang bumbling med system.
peace.
