warm castor oil, (available in rx stores) drop 4-5 drops in each ear, keep it in place with cotton ball for about 30 minutes.

Or Almond oil. If you have none try Olive Oil
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 15551590

I would add to this 'tea tree oil'

u can warm any of these oils a little bit..not too much.

antibiotics is a must for ear infection.

cotton ball good idea. put oil in, and lay on your side for a few minutes, as long as you can, to keep the oil in your ear, put a cotton ball in the ear, this will help keep the oil in the ear.

Ear Candles found at most Whole food, or natural herb stores. Works wonders!hf
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 18335718

I would recommend getting someone else to do the candling, as it's pretty tricky trying to do it yourself,
and you don't want to end up burning up your hair or whatnot.
But it does great on drawing out allllll that stuff, and if you use H2O2 first, the stuff will be softer and come out more easily. Hope you get some relief!

If it's caused by the cold...my mother used to wrap
a newspaper into a dunce cap (and put it on my head)
and place the pointy part in my ear and light the other side with a match (but be very careful) the heat would get rid of my ear ache.

Hope you get well soon!

For swimmer's ear:
Half hydrogen peroxide (to kill bacteria) and half rubbing alcohol (to dry out the ear) Works everytime! Just use a dropper to put into ear.

Thank you all so much for the tips. I'm jotting it all down in case I need it later on.

A few things I've heard about and a couple I haven't. I'm just glad no one suggested urine lol. All of the older people I've talked to seem to be hooked on that remedy.

I tried the peroxide the heat pads and the blow dryer. Seems to have helped, I feel much better now. :)

Re: Anyone have a good earache remedy?
well, apparently the fish antibiotics at the pet store are the same as people antibiotics and they have amoxicillin and a few others. i plan to try this next time i need it. you don't need a prescription for it either. i have previously looked this up and see that it seems to be true and they have it even at petsmart, etc. this seems a great idea for those that don't have insurance (such as myself) especially.

anyway, good luck, hope you feel better soon as earaches are one of the worst things to endure!
 Quoting: scorpio66

Yep, they are the exact same thing

I have a lot of fish that need the pills so we're stocked up. ;)

Tea tree oil undiluted directly in the ear?

I have some that I use for other things but I had no idea it could be used for that. Thanks!

glad the peroxide worked for you, it works everytime i feel a little bit of flu coming, i always feel it in the ears first, at that point my smokes start tasting a little funny, then i know its time to get out the peroxide. the symptoms never go any further.

I'm sorry Deb, that sucks! I have never really had any earaches/infections so I cannot speak from personal experience, other than with cauliflower ear, lol but I am assuming that is not your issue.

I would go get it checked for infection if possible, then if it is, they will give you some antibiotics.

Re: Anyone have a good earache remedy?
heres the cure

use 2% hyrdogen peroxide in an ear dropper

have a tissue ready

tilting head to side or lying down on side fill up ear canal with hydrogen peroxide solution using ear dropper.

leave in ear for a few minutes, there will be bubbling noise as the peroxide works its wonders.

after a few minutes has passed using the tissue hold against the ears and change to the other ear and do the same.

repeat this once more.

you should feel the peroxide running into your throat once it has made its way through the inner ear.

this works for any ear nose and throat problem

influenza doesnt stand a chance with this! (it enters from the ear!!)

your welcome OP

I've got a horrible earache right now, severe pain..I mean severe.

Anyone have any quick home remedies or suggestions to relieve the pain? Plain old heat maybe?

I've read a couple of older threads but I seem to be missing or am out of a couple of things suggested..oil of oregano I don't have, I don't really want to put piss in my ear and I'm not sure of anything else that's safe to stick in there.

I have about 3 hours of making breakfast, packing lunches and getting kids ready for school so the vicodin I have is out of the question til they're gone, so I need a little help to get me by for a few hours, if you'd all be so kind as to recommend something that has worked for you and isn't to complicated I'd appreciate it. I'm not lazy..just not keen on moving around much right now, hurts too much.

The irony. Was about to post this on facebook from family and friends. Post your home remedies. Mainly because I have the same issue.

Heat, heat will elevate the pain. Seriously. get a heating pad and take asprin.

One thing my parents did when I was a child as I got them quite often. Boil up hot water with baby oil in it (no idea of the amount of water to oil-wish I did). Drop a few drops with an eye dropper or something into your ear. Cover the ear with a cotton ball using surgical tape, The white tape. Then lay down with that ear facing down.

It always worked. Its cleaning, melting the built up moisture (Swimming?) or build up ear wax (Combined?). Symptoms vary. [link to www.emedicinehealth.com]

Was always swimming with me or moisture combined with built up ear wax. Even though I do clean my ears. All depends were you live. Since I hardly ever go swimming I hardly get them. But the way the weather has been lately I have been going through many, many changes myself. Stuff that happend as child only coming back. Things that only happen in certain seasons out of season.

Heating pad, same deal. But may want to to put a towel, paper or whatever down. Otherwise your pad will get icky ear wax all over it.

Headaches too for heating pads. Its awesome. Take some asprin, lay head on pad and relax a bit.

Also useful for back problems.
Asprin, hot ass shower pounding the painful area while a heating pad is warming up waiting for you when you get out.

cut a clove of garlic to fit inside the ear, coat the cut edges with oil. stuff it in your ear, almost instant relief for pain, and helps with the swelling and infection. just make sure it is large enough so it can't work it's way down into they ear canal.

This is going in my book on alternative medicine as a remedy for ear ache, Crush two garlic cloves add teaspoon of warm water, using a small pipet put two drops of the juice in the offending ear/ears within 15 minutes you will notice that your ache will turn numb and may itch a little.

Within half hour the itch and ache will have gone, please let me know how you get on.

Meanwhile, never put anything in your ear smaller than your elbow and you shouldn't get earaches.

Good Luck!
