ACK!! My furnace won't turn on. Can someone help me please?
So I go to turn on my furnace and it's getting power but the initial motor won't kick on. Not the blower motor but the other one that starts first to get everything going. It worked fine last year but apparently something happened over the summer.

Could I have a bad capacitor or something? Do I need a new motor?

Any help is appreciated.

Could be as simple as something obstructing the fan blade. This happened to me this year on an AC condenser.

I would say it's the motor but it worked fine last year when we shut it down for the summer.

Can they go bad just sitting there?

Do you have a light switch on the furnace? Mine has one for Summer and Winter, Maybe it's something as simple as that.

What did you do to shut it down last year?
Is the gas on? There must be proof of flame on the pilot loght before main burner and fan spin up. Should be a small wire above the pilot.

I just wanted to take a moment and point that out.

Re: ACK!! My furnace won't turn on. Can someone help me please?
The pilot must be lit to start the evacuator motor. The evacuator motor must run for a certain amount of time before the burner starts. The burner must come up to temp before the blower kicks in. This is controlled by the sequencer board. On the board, check the fuse for the evac motor or the pilot may have gone out. If you blow yourself up, please post; It will make good doom for the rest of us. Thank you.
