Quitting smoking.. Any advice?
So I have not had a cigarette since Saturday at 3:30am. I have tried to quit using various nicotine replacement methods many times... obviously that didn't work! I am not working, my husband is out of town so I'm thinking now is the time to try cold turkey.. Any tips or hints? I'm trying to keep busy with yard work, walking dog, ect. but I'm starting to go out of my freaken mind... 20 some years of habit is not easy to change!

Any advice to make things easier on my mind from anyone who has been here? Thanks

Electronic cigarettes helped me, if you can afford them.

Buy a packet of the worst tasting most sickening disgusting ciggies you can find...and when you feel like a smoke..the taste will turn you off.

Soon enough..a day or so..and the mere thought of having a smoke will turn your stomach.

Thanks... have tried that and I just went back to real cigs the first drink I had. I am hoping to have a few weeks under my belt before my birthday so I can have a drink or two without blowing it again...

Use isochronic tones......they make them for use with meditation. They have them specifically to help with breaking addictions.......

Google it. I've done experiments on myself where I would start to crave the smokes and would put the headphones on for just a few moments...the craving would be gone. I was able to put off smoking for hours at a time this way.....

Good luck.hf

cold turkey's tough, stay away from people and do what you gotta do. sleep whenever, eat what you want, just get through a week and you'll be OK. take deep breaths when the urge hits.

Re: Quitting smoking.. Any advice?
everytime you want to smoke, you delay it as long as you can. From 1 to 2 minutes to 3to4 hours.

Never tell yourself that you will never smoke again. once you are able to smoke only 1 or 2 a day. you will able to quit it easily.

1st three days are the worst, you won't sleep worth a shit and be pissy, but it's all good...it does get better. And if ya fail, don't be hard on yourself. Tobacco is a very hard addiction to quit.

If you've gone this long you can tough it out. Tell yourself you used to smoke, but now you're an ex-smoker.

Best of luck!

Get a good e-cig. The first one I tried tasted like Halloween fog. You know that smell and taste from the fog machines at haunted houses. Anyways it was several more years before I decided to give them another try.

I researched them and decided on white cloud. Best one on the market in my opinion. Then you have to find a strong flavor that gives you that strong hit and throat burn. I prefer the Kick by white cloud. It hits strong and I prefer it over a real cig any day of the week. I still have a real one from time to time but usually just end up regretting it.

I really think you should give it another go with the e-cig. My husband and I both quit and we were smoking almost 2 packs a day. White Cloud now has Flings and they are disposable ones so you can try it out before committing and buying the whole starter set. I wish you luck!

pop open and eat sunflower seeds. you need to replace the process of putting stuff in your mouth and they're pretty healthy.

Thats why chicks won't quit. You gotta change your whole life when you quit smoking. Not just stop cigs. You gotta eat different, exercise, socialize with different people, non smokers, and, take up a hobby that will keep you busy for the rest of your life.

Re: Quitting smoking.. Any advice?
Thanks everyone for the advice... I really have tried everything out there, including the weaning down to a couple a day, but I always ended up back at it full steam ahead eventually. I will be 38 in a few weeks or so and really have not been feeling great lately and would really like to celebrate my Birthday smoke free if possible.. If I blow it I will just try again until I get it right... Just hard!

The advice of stay the hell away from people is a good one! I just want to feel healthier (if possible in this world)
No more sore throat and bleeding nose that I have been dealing with for the last month or so would be a nice benefit if smoking is even the reason...

Thanks for the input!

This works! Get so drunk you don't wanna or can't leave the couch the next day. Talking the all day hangover but take it up three notches so you cant get to the porch for a smoke. Have shit tons of snacks and odd shit like smoked fish around for day 2 and 3. Pull up pictures of people who died in there 30's of lung cancer, easy to find on google images. Have some one who loves you enough too cater to your hung over morose ass helps too.

Re: Quitting smoking.. Any advice?
-You have to be 100% committed to not smoking ever again. Anything less and it is not worth the grief.
-Find a substitute, I chomped on hard candy.
-Drinking is a problem, it is usually the downfall of someone who is quitting or has quit smoking.
-I found that switching to tea instead of coffee helped a lot. Green tea for it's cleansing effects.
-If you haven't smoked for a couple of years, then you can consider yourself successful.
-Good luck, it is not easy. but can be done.
