And the people of Israel did so; they gathered some more, some less. But when they measured it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; each gathered according to what he could eat (Ex. 16:16-18) Communist? |

They laid it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need. There was a Levite, a native of Cyprus, Joseph, to whom the apostles gave the name Barnabas (which means “son of encouragement”). He sold a field that belonged to him, then brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’ feet. (Acts 4:34-37) Communist? |

It's even a book title I suggested years ago: "Jesus was a Republican" Why - Here's why: In the week of his death, Mary Magdalen came to Jesus to wash his feet with expensive balm. The disciples rebuked her, pointing out that the money for the balm could have been better spent on the poor. Jesus replied that He himself would only be on earth a short time longer, but "The poor you will always have with you." And that is the truth. Jesus was not about social engineering, but about truth. There will always be poor people. There will always be needy. Jesus is not some democrat trying to fix the world, but the Messiah of the Lord. There are far worse things than poverty. Like evil. Like denying God the father. Liberalism is totalitarianism with a human face – Thomas Sowell |

He was cornered by the snakes of his day often and asked about their politics. He always managed to put them in their place and avoid being cornered by their lies. "God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787 |

Jesus is actually referencing the book of Deuteronomy, "There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your fellow Israelites who are poor and needy in your land." I think it's fair to say that neither Deuteronomy nor Jesus were using the obvious truth that there will always be poor people as a commandment to not try to reduce poverty! I have extreme difficulty accepting the conservative argument that fighting poverty, including improving access to health care, better education and so on, must only be done on an individual, charitable basis, especially in our largely Judeo-Christian ethical framework. |

Like denying God the father. Utter nonsense. The existance of the poor is a test, a test of one's compassion and one's attachment to wealth. It says over and over in the New Testament that one should provide for the poor, at the expense of one's own wealth. "What you do to the least of them you do to me." Timothy 9-11 states it unequivacally, in summation, "love of money is the root of all evil." It's the merchants, kings, the wealthy, who are ultimately damned in revelations. Though, being a communist, as defined by Marx, is to be an athiest, or hyper-materialist, which, like the hyper-materialism of capitalism, is contrary to the New Testament. Communism, Capitalism, two sides of the same coin. |

Exactly right. And how the republitards have gotten away with an absolutely insane misinterpretation of the New Testament is hard to fathom, maybe republitards can't read? Maybe they should be honest and drop Jesus and start worshiping Ayn Rand. |
