Betelgeuse is an interesting selection Kinga.

Remembering that all our knowledge of the stars is theoretical using recent observations suggest that a star in Betelgeuse's class may spend some of its lifetime as a red supergiant, pass through a brief yellow supergiant phase and then explode as a blue supergiant star.

So maybe that is one of the signs we should be looking for in this red to blue shift.

As Betelgeuse is estimated at 500 - 700 light years from Earth we wouldn't see a transition for 500 to 700 years, unless it had already happened.

The crab Nebula which was created from a supernova SN 1054 also contains a pulsar, which can emit gamma ray busrts.

Now where we go with this information... I don't know.
