How about we shove some golf balls and cut up tires down there to plug it. We could use hair to soak up the gas.

have to wonder why louisiana is getting fucked over left and right

is it because someone doesn't like them, or is it that they have a culture of corruption and looking the other way that's catching up to them?

Texas Brine is saying eq tremors caused the cave in to avoid liability.
I'll bet the tremors were actually caused by the walls of the sinkhole sloughing off from gas & all that federally protected crap dumped in there undoing whatever integrity it had.

Just their way of sayin they don't plan to pay evacuees or compensate their losses, or even clean up.

..word from the WH, any disasters involving corporations hit the ignore button.
You won't see Red Cross either.

People down there could amass 250,000 signatures above the req'd 25,000 it won't make any difference.
Looks like we haven't learned a thing from the BP or Fukushima disasters.
You'll see people not allowed to return to their homes b/c anywhere toxins land is their property.

Louisiana has screwed itself again. This is what they get for giving industry so many damn tax breaks. They get a SLAP in the face in return. It's like letting someone use your bathroom and they end up shitting all over your house. Then YOU have to clean it up. Argh..

would be an interesting twist if lava started coming up from the sinkhole area since gas is being forced out from all over the place maybe it's becoming volcanically active again.

I did see a video about a extinct(supposedly)volcano in one of the states beside Louisiana. I think Alabama or Georgia I can't remember of hand, maybe someone who knows could chime in on this thought. 1dunno1

I live in Mississippi. There is an extinct volcano in Jackson Mississippi. Is that the one you are talking about?

Re: SINKHOLE DOOM: Salt Dome Failure has been CONFIRMED!
Can somebody please explain whether:

-the dome's contents DISAPPEARED
-they settled on lower grounds
-they were never even there
-they evapourated
-they leaked into a nearby dome

Something's seems VERY fishy....

I don't know what the geology there is , but in fla peninsula and panhandle, the underlying rock is very porous limerock. Over here typically the sinks are formed from the interaction of water ( or lack of) and eroded limerock. Sandy soil, very porous overlying limerock, some areas along water will have wet sandy clay

So up down sideways through shifts and openings, cracks. A salt dome sounds like a plenty porous structure. I would assume on paper at least it has some durability since they have been allowed to store in it, but common sense does not always prevail.

no. the brine company pumped out hundreds of thousands of gallons of stuff, until they struck gas and bugged out.

Sorry, I'm probably not the one to ask. My cynicism runs deeper than any sinkhole.

Dept of Interior and corps of engineers stay away from corporate 'property' as I understand it.
Tx Brine & other owners will shake marachas, look busy while the situation deteriorates, slap on a bandaid here and there and walk away.

Re the corp of engineers doings last spring diverting dams and this year's shockingly low dispersal of mississippi river water this year leaves unanswered questions as to why the northern runoff didn't make it all the way down this year. Who's got the water, or is it just nasty ol me.

Yeah. It makes me wonder if magma is not on the move under the gulf states and pushing the gas out from miles down below the salt cavern area (path of lest resistance).

I can't wait for the news tomorrow. There was a meeting and I hope we will finally see the leaders in the community taking a stand. The locals officials IMO have been letting everyone else run the show. It is time for the mayor or sheriff to call the shots. Someone needs to protect the citizens and their interests.

see, that's what is interesting
on the assumption blog's new update it says the local officials and usgs are disputing claims by Texas Brine who says that their tests show the sinkhole was caused by the earthquakes
the local emergency officials and usgs question this and usgs says whatever happened in the cavern is what triggered the earthquakes, that the earthquakes are a result and not the cause

[link to assumptionla.wordpress.com]

Welsh said the amendment to the existing Declaration of Emergency and Directive came following Texas Brine’s unilateral declaration that its cavern had been breached due to regional seismic activity.

Texas Brine issued a statement late Monday night making the claim of a regional seismic cause for the cavern failure and citing U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) seismic analysis, without prior notice or consultation with state agencies, Assumption Parish officials or the Science Work Group created to support investigation of the sinkhole/slurry area and ongoing presence of natural gas in the ground water and surface water near the Bayou Corne community.

On Tuesday, USGS Senior Adviser for Earthquake and Geologic Hazards William Leith stated that USGS consensus is that the seismic activity detected in the area is a consequence of the cavern collapse, not the cause of the collapse and sinkhole/slurry area.

Started months ago. Bubbles all over the bayou, houses shifting, and residents saying they were feeling tremors. August a sinkhole opens up. Sink hole gets bigger. Natural gas pipes (some 36" dia) are bending. Mandatory evacuation for residents and Texas Brine called in to see if their salt cavern failed. Drilling, sinkhole growing, tremors continue and more bayou bubbling. Then we get to today. Salt dome has failed. Texas Brine saying not my fault.
