This whole Dec 21, 2012 Mayan calendar stuff is based on the ASSumption that the solar system will cross the center of the galaxy on this day.
My question to all you New Age enlightened ones is where is this center of the galaxy ? Is there a dashed yellow line running through the Milky Way ? How did they locate this center ?

The other line of thought is that we are original to the Milky Way galaxy and that as we revolve around the galactic center, our Solar system actually bobs up and down through the galactic plane. I believe it was astronomers from Harvard University that estimated our galactic plane crossing sometime around 1998/1999. The timing of which is pretty uncanny...
