Sounds a bit like OCD.

Look into natural supplements, but of course consult a professional.

Don't bother defending yourself from the haters. They exist purely as examples of what not to do in this life.

Consider them black magicians and be done with them.

"i want to stab people"

there, now you are no different to me, except it passes right through your head and out because you do not have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. it just means you will pay attention to those random thoughts more than non OCDers. it does not mean you want to actually do those things. non OCDers wonder all the time what would happen if they did something bad, but it passes right out of their head. OCDers are not able to do that the thought sticks in their head then they get anxiety thinking about what would happen, sometimes it gets really bad like mine... except my intrusive thought is SAYING OUT LOUD I WANT TO KILL PEOPLE, not I WANT TO ACTUALLY GO OUT AND KILL PEOPLE

now do you understand?

that is what my mind is trying to get me to say out loud, NOT ACTUALLY DO IT.

Your endless folly has failed you yet again. Your idea of the OP holds no sway over the intent of the OP.

“The self-confidence of the warrior is not the self-confidence of the average man. The average man seeks certainty in the eyes of the onlooker and calls that self-confidence. The warrior seeks impeccability in his own eyes and calls that humbleness. The average man is hooked to his fellow man, while the warrior is hooked only to infinity.”
 Quoting: Jonny Blaze

You need to tone your ego down a few knotches and stop with the messaiah complex. You're ascending down not up.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 21895982

And calling the OP a psychopath is helping you to 'ascend'? Twisting his words around in a self-indulging attempt to mentally beat him down when he is asking for advice is 'ascending'?

Do tell me, Mr. Compassion, just how does one 'ascend' down?
The engravings translate to "This space intentionally left blank."

The prayer is inscribed in an ancient script, rarely used today. It seems to be a philippic against small insects, absent-mindedness, and the picking up and dropping of small objects.

The gate is open; through it you can see a desolation, with a pile of mangled bodies in one corner. Thousands of voices, lamenting some hideous fate, can be heard.
The way through the gate is barred by evil spirits, who jeer at your attempts to pass.

Re: How do you change an intrusive thought?
it is your background (history pressure) giving you false associations - bad realations - bad beahviour

mental retrospection will do the work
know who you are (who you represent)

with this, you selfactualize in this time
and you will get rid of these old layers (atractive to you)

my advice is simple as always: go to nature and make peace with yourselve, touch a tree, observe also the other thoughts... you will then change the vector of your curiosity (match with that of your soul)

Re: How do you change an intrusive thought?
Could be demons.

Say this, "In Jesus Christ's name, I bind and cast out all demon."

Before you can command them in Jesus's name, you need to accept Jesus. To to do this, say this prayer sincerely:

Dear God in heaven, I come to you in the name of Jesus. I acknowledge to You that I am a sinner, and I am sorry for my sins and the life that I have lived; I need your forgiveness.

I believe that your only begotten Son Jesus Christ shed His precious blood on the cross at Calvary and died for my sins, and I am now willing to turn from my sin.

You said in Your Holy Word, Romans 10:9 that if we confess the Lord our God and believe in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead, we shall be saved.

Right now I confess Jesus as the Lord of my soul. With my heart, I believe that God raised Jesus from the dead. This very moment I accept Jesus Christ as my own personal Savior and according to His Word, right now I am saved.

Thank you Jesus for your unlimited grace which has saved me from my sins. I thank you Jesus that your grace never leads to license, but rather it always leads to repentance. Therefore Lord Jesus transform my life so that I may bring glory and honor to you alone and not to myself.

Thank you Jesus for dying for me and giving me eternal life.

Amen

If you just said this prayer and you meant it with all your heart, we believe that you just got saved and are born again. You may ask, "Now that I am saved, what's next?". First of all you need to get into a bible-based church, and study God's Word. Once you have found a church home, you will want to become water-baptized. By accepting Christ you are baptized in the spirit, but it is through water-baptism that you show your obedience to the Lord. Water baptism is a symbol of your salvation from the dead. You were dead but now you live, for the Lord Jesus Christ has redeemed you for a price! The price was His death on the cross. May God Bless You!

Re: How do you change an intrusive thought?
Firstly if I was having those kind of thoughts and was worried I would NOT be consulting a forum on the internet I would be telling a close friend or a member of my family.
Secondly , you sound like you are after attention by posting a thread like this , which tells me its a cry for help....
I think you need to evaluate your life , are you drinking/taking drugs? , do you eat properly/exercise enough? , small changes can bring about big changes....
Perhaps you feel unloved? are you in a relationship or do you have close friends / a close family , you can answer these questions then maybe you will start getting some answers .....
Also , we all have "mad" thoughts , I'd say its relatively normal unless it takes over your life , I sometimes walk through town and am laughing to myself because I think it would be funny to either run up to someone and scream at them to make them jump or push some random person....(but I never do any of this stuff guys OK!)

Re: How do you change an intrusive thought?
I think you probably got some good information on the way others might treat this problem.

What I will offer you, might be something out of your belief system. I think I understand as well as I can what you have described as a problem. How you decide to try to solve it will depend on what you believe you understand now.

But if something is true, then it should resonate with you at a deeper level. That level is the part of you that knows everything because it is the part that is always connected to God, regardless what you choose to do with your conscious mind, or even if you presently believe God or not. It really doesn’t matter because what is true is True. And it is how we were created

From my experience, my opinion is that the best way to handle the problem you describe, is to use the highest Spiritual Help available to us.

I know it works, and if you check it out it will give you an insight into the situation you were not aware of.

And it may turn out to been a blessing which led you to learn something new and important for you to learn, along with solving the problem.

Either way, best of luck to you, and I respect the fact you seem to be open enough so that you try to reach out for help even in this open forum.
One can never know for sure where the help might come from.

But if you sincerely asked for help inwardly, you would be directed to do what needs to be done to be given that help.

Each of the following links addresses the problem:

Re: How do you change an intrusive thought?
You might find it kind of low for meditation, but your whole body is the mind...not just your head, or your mental thoughts etc. So the answer to your thoughts may come from more let's say "inappropriate" parts...for example, sometimes i get into this frightening mental place, where thoughts appear to emerge randomly, and i'm like "wow, wtf is going on" (you get it), and after a couple of minutes the answer pops from my ass with a little fart...s226 which mentally translates as "nothing is going on, your just afraid, relax"...afro do not take your mind TOO seriously...peace

Re: How do you change an intrusive thought?
I get this topic. Naysayers fuck off. Unless you've experienced this you can't possibly understand.

Some seriously horrid mad shit has gone through my mind over the years, sometimes I wonder how I've remained sane. I never get compulsions to do bad stuff, but bad stuff gets stuck in my head.

Imagine for a second you're watching the news and you hear about some bad shit that just happened. Now imagine if you had the type of OCD that got those mental images/actions stuck in your head. Now imagine if YOU COULDN'T GET RID OFF THEM. That the more you fight them, the more anxious you get and the further they get embedded. Also, imagine that stuff gets twisted around and the bad stuff gets switched to from your perspective as if you'd done them, because your anxiety and emotions are so fucking high that you may as well had done something bad because that's how bad you feel. Now imagine if this happened for virtually every single horrid thing you ever witness, be it real life, TV, something COMPLETELY FICTIONAL. Then imagine it happens so often your brain gets wired to think in this action, often resulting in bad shit in your head out of nowhere. Unable to ever truly relax because you're under constant mental assault, never having a moments break at all. Imagine if you were afraid all the time, anxious all the time, and things just got worse, eventually because this was on your mind all day, it would even intrude on your sleep in your dreams.

Now imagine that you're the kindest, gentlest soul you know, but still had to put up with this mad shit endlessly everyday for years upon years.

And that's only half of it. Because that type of OCD often results in obsessive compulsive routines, such as washing hands repeatedly, checking doors, counting, ENDLESS FUCKING COUNTING IN YOUR HEAD, your OCD assigning pointless meanings (usually the bad intrusive thoughts) to numbers and actions that you know aren't true, but you have no choice to perform them because not performing them feels worse.

Can't imagine that? GOOD. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Re: How do you change an intrusive thought?
i read this could be caused by low Serotonin? since it just snapped suddenly, as in i just randomly got it one day, this is very likely? i dont see what else could just make it appear instantly? i was perfectly normal/fine before it happened.. the OCD wasn't even bugging me that much (i didnt even know i had it, til i googled it then i realized lots of things i have been doing over the years were compulsions)

is it true meditation can increase serotonin? or should i meditate as well as go buy some drugs that increase serotonin? is it easy to get? is it even legal?

Re: How do you change an intrusive thought?
Hey mate. Try thinking of it like this:

Firstly, you must believe that you are not your thoughts or your compulsions. They are just something you experience.

Personally, I have found attempting to resist thoughts and ideas only serves to increase the frequency with which they occur.

In one sense you might imagine how your attention applied to a specific idea will strengthen the neural mechanisms that underpin it.

Rather than fight the idea like it is unwanted part of 'you', I believe it be much more effective to recognise these kinds of ideas as passing background noise.

A practical method I have found to be effective is to consider it as follows:
- Negative/inappropriate thought pops into my head
- Then I acknowledge and accept that experience
- Then I ask myself what/who is experiencing the thought?

Try to consider that question deeply. I find the realisation that follows to completely abolish the power that thoughts and ideas have in directing my attention.

Re: How do you change an intrusive thought?
i keep getting this intrusive thought whenever i am around people, its the same bloody one (its a speech one) this is probably the worst kind of intrusive thought, because it is much easier to say something than to grab a knife and stab someone.... i try to stop myself from saying something bad but it gets so bad it gives me an insane headache, today it got so bad i was THAT close to saying something bad... i was in a car so i had no where to walk away... this makes it worse.. being in a car... i dont even think of the intrusive thought its just always there whenever im around people... even if i think of something else i can still feel it

and no i am not going to a doctor/psychiatrist, there must be another way to cure it / make it a better intrusive thought... like instead of "i want to kill people" make it "i like teapots"

is there a way to change it? i have tried and tried but my mind is stuck with the "i want to kill people"

this is bad especially when you are in the doctors waiting room with 30 people.... ive only had it for 2 weeks so i am hopeful it will just fade away soon...

Re: How do you change an intrusive thought?
Here is an idea for a cognitive trick/technique to try. The next time you are experienced unwanted or anxiety inducing thoughts that you can't turn off - catch yourself in the act, and then force yourself to do some arithmetic/computation in your head. Find combinations of numbers that you have difficulty adding or subtracting. The longer it takes you to process the calculation in your head, the better. What you will be doing is redireting your conscious energy by activating a different region of your brain, which will in turn de-energize or draw energy away from the region of your brain that was responsible for fueling the unwanted/undesirable thoughts.

The goal here is not to forever play mind games with yourself, but to learn control where you direct your conscious energy - to learn to turn off your mind when you desire to.

At first you will experience a very short-lived but discernable sense of mental relief from engaging in this practice. However it will fade quickly and you will find yourself returning to those unwanted thoughts shortly after, but you will increasingly find that those thoughts are now less threatening and less severe (less energized) than prior to you implementing this tactic. When you try and revisit those thoughts that you interupted, you will find it to be difficult to match the original level of intensity of those thoughts. You almost get an inner monoglue or feeling of, "What was I getting so worked up about again?". With practice you will find this technique easier to execute and the sense of mental relief that you get will increase in duration. You are training your consciousness to control your wandering mind. Eventually you will reach a point where you no longer need to employ tricks or 'techniques', you will simply have learned how to turn your mind off when you are experiencing cumbersome and unwanted thoughts. Really it's about regaining control of your conscious awareness.

Give it a try and see if it works for you. What have you got to lose? cool2

Hi - I came by this thread after starting one on my own difficulty with a similar issue; Thread: I might be having a minor to severe OCD problem and would appreciate some advice...

I was just wondering, did you ever overcome all of these without medication -- or did it take medication to help you, and how effective was it? Are you better now?

Your description is essentially what I have been experiencing for about 9 mths with little relief, and I haven't gone on medication yet. I don't have any outward rituals, just an intrusive thought but I spend so much time ruminating on it. I'd appreciate any advice - thank you.

Re: How do you change an intrusive thought?
"Intrusive thoughts are unwelcome involuntary thoughts, images, or unpleasant ideas that may become obsessions, are upsetting or distressing, and can be difficult to manage or eliminate.[1] When they are associated with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), depression, body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), and sometimes attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), the thoughts may become paralyzing, anxiety-provoking, or persistent. Intrusive thoughts may also be associated with episodic memory, unwanted worries or memories from OCD,[2] posttraumatic stress disorder, other anxiety disorders, eating disorders, or psychosis.[3] According to Lee Baer (a specialist at the OCD clinic of Massachusetts General Hospital), intrusive thoughts, urges, and images are of inappropriate things at inappropriate times, usually falling into three categories: "inappropriate aggressive thoughts, inappropriate sexual thoughts, or blasphemous religious thoughts".[4]"

Re: How do you change an intrusive thought?
to "get rid of" the intrusive thoughts, i suppose we have to accept that they are there/to live with them. The more I resist, the more bothersome those thoughts become.

I have intrusive thoughts in all categories mentioned in the article, aggresive, sexual and religious.
