i was going to destroy the HD and place the computer for parts on ebay/amazon

when i run the computer on AC out of the wall without a battery, i have the same results

Try a hard open-hand slap squarely on the right side of the tower centered on the motherboard. Make sure you hit it hard enough to send the tower reeling and just enough that it almost but not quite tips over. You only get one try at this so make sure you do it properly.
This will fix it.
