If there was no such thing as money something would take its place... I couldn't imagine trading crops for a 60" tv though...

Re: What If Money Was No Object?
this is the theme of the movie Office Space, in essence.

Unfortunately the lead goes from not caring about money / jobs at all to caring too much about it, causing him to make poor decisions. What am I talking about? I'm sure I'm not the only person to see this movie.

If money were suddenly no object, humans would become destructive. They would not know how to act. Like being institutionalized. Everyone is so used to this way of living that even though it should be a relief of heavy burden, it would be destruction. Sad :(

Re: What If Money Was No Object?
I have more money than I can reasonably spend in my lifetime on the things I need. I've accomplished most of what matters to me except for enough sex and drugs.

Don't laugh please.

Intimate loving sex really matters - and most folks get it through marriage or other committed relationship. Women always leave, and no shrink or other person has been able to fathom it. I don't understand it, and would be glad to pay for it, but only if it's loving.

SOME drugs are really helpful in finding happiness and health. Many of these are illegal and as others become available, governments of the world make them illegal. As part of MY birthright, I want to have access to them - preferably legally.

So that's it - intimate loving sex and effective drugs without either legal sanction or MD gatekeepers. Two things you can't buy with money that really matter.

The only other thing that might matter would be worldwide travel without fear of borders. That's a distant third behind the first two.

For some of us, money is no object, and yet we don't spend it - it's just not that necessary. Those who are slave to the tube might worry about losing a frame, yet once tried, it's much easier to detach from the working/buying/selling meme except in so far as it's fun and enjoyable - not for the result.

Your delusional and have no understanding of human nature

Money is one of the most useful things humans have ever invented.

You would not have the computer you are typing on without it, nor much of anything else.

The problem is fiat currencies and the criminals (politicians and bankers) that promote them.

Educate yourself, spend some time at misses.org

money and a bible.

 Quoting: in5d

He probably won't have our Bible or our form of money, but you can't be sure he does not have a holy book of a form of currency on his home planet.

But since he is a figment of you imagination I guess you can be sure.

Re: What If Money Was No Object?
if it was no object....it would just get replaced by another form of goods / objects that got traded for items that you needed... thus putting you right back were you are now.

Money is just a representation of time worked with a value placed on the work you do. it has been this way from the first days that man created a village.

Now if you are saying you are taking all this motivation of trade away, then I would become a lazy ass, do what ever I wanted, take what ever I wanted and expect people to create good for my behalf.

I'm always asking people this question, "What would you be doing if there was no such thing as money?" Myself, I'd probably have an orchard to grow food to help feed others. I'd also be a spiritual counselor to help people find their true divine reason for being here.

What would YOU do if there was no such thing as money?
 Quoting: in5d

What is stopping you from the orchard idea? Or, if that is out of the question with your current resources then how about helping in other ways? See, you can volunteer your time or use the MONEY you earn as a tool to help others.

You have no spare time now? Not even time to type a silly idea on a computer? Watch TV at all? You have time to spare. Do you own more than 3 changes of clothing? Do you have anything that is not crucial for survival? Then you have extra MONEY to help others.

Money is not the problem. The problem is the CHOICES we make.

It is the biggest illusion of all.

If you live your life chasing the dollar you will miss the beauty and peace that nature freely offers.

What was that?..you can´t pay your mortgage with nature? sucker! you have been sucked into the system.

Huh?..you can´t buy food with peace and tranquility? fuckwit! food is free in the real world. The apple tree does not charge for chalky re-frozen crap including govt tax.

FFS forget money, it will soon be relegated to history as mankinds greatest fuckup.
 Quoting: fortytwo

Nature will never provide the luxuries we in the modern world have come to expect. Where is the thermostat? Actually, where in nature is the house (enough for 6 billion folks)? How can I travel 2 miles or less and find EVERY food item I need in one spot?

In nature many creatures are not able to locate food for many days at a time. You see them foraging in rain, sleet, and burning heat. Are you really wanting that life?

Re: What If Money Was No Object?
Money=abstraction of desires. It lets attain our needs and wants in a portable, flexible way. Some form of currency has always existed. Do away with needs and wants, and money can go away. Until then...

Thus the famous Bible verse about "the love of money" being the root of all evil. It's our desire that's evil; Money's just the means. It's hunger that makes us destroy another life so we can survive and thrive. Life itself is the evil. That our strongest urges are to stay alive and perpetuate life means that life is also a trap.

Some say the world has much beauty, but it's one thing to behold a thing, and something entirely different to be that thing as any person who's been blessed with physical beauty will tell you.

Compassion via empathy, our one saving grace as a species, comes most readily to those who regularly deny their desires. That's why zealots are so annoying. We feel their desire to "help" just as much as we would their desire to harm or take advantage. Besides that, do-gooders make the mistake of thinking that the world can be repaired.

No living thing acts without stimulus or motives. If aliens come here in a ship, they're acting on some motive. The aliens I've met have all had some type of currency.

Don't get me wrong. I think the money system stinks too.

I took my time. I think you're wrong. Maybe right about money, but any species capable of existential thought (that is, not a hive mind ala Starship Troops or Borg) is going to ponder the questions "Who am I" and "What purpose to I serve" and "Where did all this come from?" You can bet your butt that they are going to have some kind of Holy Writ on that spaceship.

I was going to start another thread, but it's relevant here.

What if the world's greatest minds were not dedicated to the war machine? Talk about misallocation of resources. What if they were dedicated to bettering the human race?

What if pharmaceutical scientists were dedicated to preventing and curing diseases instead of creating new diseases and making people dependent on medicine?

Where do the world's smartest people work now? And if there were no money? How many brilliant people are drawn to parasite professions like law, politics and finance?

What if Thomas Edison with help of the government did not alienate and bury Tesla with his plans of free wireless energy for the entire planet?

What if the people who work at the Monsanto's of the world instead figured out how to inexpensively and safely feed the world in a sustainable way instead of a dependent on corporations way?
“We must keep the people busy with political antagonisms."
“We’ll therefore speed up the question of reform (of tarrifs within) the Democratic Party; and we’ll put the spotlight on the question of protection …(for) the Republican Party."

“By dividing the electorate this way, we’ll be able to have them spend their energies at struggling amongst themselves, on questions that, for us, have no importance whatsoever." - United State Bankers magazine, 1892.
