Re: What If Money Was No Object?
I was going to start another thread, but it's relevant here.

What if the world's greatest minds were not dedicated to the war machine? Talk about misallocation of resources. What if they were dedicated to bettering the human race?

What if pharmaceutical scientists were dedicated to preventing and curing diseases instead of creating new diseases and making people dependent on medicine?

Where do the world's smartest people work now? And if there were no money? How many brilliant people are drawn to parasite professions like law, politics and finance?

What if Thomas Edison with help of the government did not alienate and bury Tesla with his plans of free wireless energy for the entire planet?

What if the people who work at the Monsanto's of the world instead figured out how to inexpensively and safely feed the world in a sustainable way instead of a dependent on corporations way?
 Quoting: jcab2002

I think you should start a "What If" thread

I'll add one:

"What if Stanley Meyer's water powered car invention wasn't suppressed by the government after he was poisoned to death?"

If there was no such thing as money something would take its place... I couldn't imagine trading crops for a 60" tv though...
 Quoting: Hitokiri

Think outside of the box. We have the resources to give everyone on the planet a 60-inch TV. The goal is to not have to trade anything for anything.

Planet Earth provides.

Where is the thermostat and light switch?

Less than 1% of people in the modern world could actually survive in nature. They would drink bad water, walk past food sources and/or die of exposure.

Earth provides all the raw materials, The labor of man make them usable to society.

While this cannot obviously apply to everyone with the current system of our world, its definitely a great idea.

The problem is, the human mentality of greed must be abandoned before we can ever make progress in this realm.

Finish up my mechanical engineering masters, grow food, get my medical degree, and work on high tech prosthetics. I'd also work on modifying the internal combustion engine to get 100+ miles to a liter of fuel.

We can dream.

This^

For some reason people think that the world can operate without compensation to those who work... That's called slavery! And even then you have to provide food and shelter for your slaves.
 Quoting: Hitokiri

Communes can operate without compensation. It's when greed infiltrates that they don't work. Always wanting more has been programmed into everyone since birth. That has to end for us to progress as a species. We don't have to want more. All we need to survive is food and shelter. If that were our only desire, the world could operate without compensation.

All of this "progress" is not progress at all. It is what keeps us all slaves.
 Quoting: jcab2002

Who wants to just "survive?" I want to live! I think it is progress. I love having stuff! So you'd rather go back to the times of working the land from sun up to sun down hoping that you survive??? No thank you!
 Quoting: Hitokiri

I want to just survive. Stuff makes you a slave. Working for yourself from sun up to sun down is true freedom.
 Quoting: jcab2002

I'd rather work for 9 hours then go home and ride my mountain bike, relax in my backyard, and play some Xbox; that's what I call freedom. You can break your back in the fields.

Resourced Based Economy - The Venus Project

There are options, we do have a choice, and we can change the world.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 15670285

Where is this system operating?

Far as I know this has been a concept for well over twenty years. Are they accepting donations to get the project off the ground?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1243463

Yes, I believe so. I just can't get my head around spending money to eliminate money.

There are amazing people out there with world changing ideas, we just need to try new things. We are an intelligent and creative species with so much potential, we just need to work together.

All children deserve a better future than we are offering. We are not living sustainably, there will be nothing left for them. This is unacceptable, we are smarter than this, and we can do something about it! Together!!!

Re: What If Money Was No Object?
Money is a means of barter and as there are many forms of barter it is all good but to me (opinion) it is what I do with my money that matters.
Money is a means of acquisition of goods and services in a meaningful or colorful ways (depending on which country has the best designed money) trade is and always been between people or nations for services based on another s ability or skills which another person might lack (knowledge).
No money would mean we would barter (work for a day, trade for food stuff, etc) or trade for services rendered.
It is the love of money that is the root of all evil.

Your delusional and have no understanding of human nature

Money is one of the most useful things humans have ever invented.

You would not have the computer you are typing on without it, nor much of anything else.

The problem is fiat currencies and the criminals (politicians and bankers) that promote them.

Educate yourself, spend some time at misses.org

I'm sorry I have to disagree.Money can be manipulated just like everything else that is fake in this world. The money in you pocket is not backed by anything. Money buys people. Money buys decisions. Your wife would leave you if you had no money.Money buys everything! That is the problem with money my friend.

The Venus Project was started around 1975 by Jacque Fresco[1] and by former portrait artist Roxanne Meadows in Venus, Florida, United States.

look at [link to factualsolutions.blogspot.com]
for 4 'venus cities'. One I looked into is a 1/5 acre homestead one mile north of Pasedena Ca.

Not a lot of progress in 37 years.

When will you Venus dreamers admit that the project is a failure?

The alue of anything can be manipulated. Think oil or silver speculators.

A 50 inch TV today costs about the same dollars as a 25 inch TV 40 years ago. Manipulation.

The thing that makes money work as currency is people's faith in it. As long as we go to work and buy stuff using money it will be a viable currency.

I'm always asking people this question, "What would you be doing if there was no such thing as money?" Myself, I'd probably have an orchard to grow food to help feed others. I'd also be a spiritual counselor to help people find their true divine reason for being here.

What would YOU do if there was no such thing as money?

How would that work?

The concept of money is very practical--it is the corrupt practices associated with it that is the bane.

No matter what mechanism of exchange is employed "rustlers" are a "natural" component, most lifeforms are plagued with parasites.

The focus becomes the issue of the exchange system... not the scurrilous... as it should be.

This technique is known as misdirection.

Another commune I heard about was ordered to close down due to a fight, a few gunshots and commune owners lying to the people that lived there . Total corruption.. And many people spent their whole savings to move there and get settled. I saw a picture of the place, it was a dump. Nothing like whats above .
